IAT Sensor relocated?

My buddy has just recently turbo'd his 99EX, still has the stock D16Y8 and I was just wondering what most of you do with you air intake temp sensor and the other hose that was connected in that general area (think it might be the idle air assist valve). Right now he just has the sensor hanging there and his other hose plugged off, but he is having some idle issues (running tunertoys 550cc injectors and UD). The idle lops up/down sometimes and other times it just dies. I was just thinking that maybe we should lengthen the wires/hose and move those to the intake before the turbo. I am not sure if these are causing the idle issue or not, and he has already blocked off the IACV, that did not help, so then he cleaned it and tried that and that did not help. Any ideas? :-\

what's he using to control the fuel? i have my iat sensor lodged inbetween the fins of the intercooler, it really doesn't do much for fuel delivery, might richen it up a lil, plus there i can monitor my intercooler temp. no idle problems on 450s

sorry, i missed the UD part :P
im running uberdata with 0 problems on 450s. send me his map and i'll look it over for him to make sure everything checks out. has it been tuned? i had a little bogdown coming to a stop with my untuned map, the idle would fall down to around 500 then come back up. now that i tuned it with a wideband i've had 0 problems.

Yea, he is using the 550cc injectors. Kevin (protekteg) made his basemap and we have not really had a chance to tune it, yet, although it runs strong and has good afr's in boost. I THINK at idle it jumps from about 14.1-15.4 on his PLX. I was wondering more about the other hose (the one that I thought was idle air assist valve). One more piece of info, I noticed that the timing marks were moving back and forth a little with the up/down idle, can I smooth this out in the map on UD or do you think that is just the ECU over-compensating then correcting for what ever else the problem is, the? I am still learning the in/outs of UD, and he still needs a data logging cable so we can tune it.

I have a 98 ex and here is how I did mine.
Attachment 38136
drill a hole in the charge pipe and use a grommet to secure it. Mine is in there tight as ---- and has never popped out. As long as the hole is small enough it will be in there tight. Don't be ghetto and ziptie it somewhere. At least place it somewhere that it is reading the intake temps. When you do get it working you'll have to let me know what your iat's read in datalogging because for some reason mine reads abnormally cool temps sometimes down to 50 degrees, but when i datalog on other cars with my same ecu it reads normal.

Shue, so that installation the the IAT sensor really doesn't pop out under boost? I would think it does, that's cool. How many psi are you pushing?

Re: IAT Sensor relocated?

I have mine re-routed to my pre-turbo intake. I also have a 99ex D16Y8. I cut my stock short ram and use that as my pre-turbo intake, so I still have the nipple for my catch-can and the hole for my IAT to plug into. No problems.

Ok, I think you would get a more accurate reading by having it before the turbo, but I am not concerned as much about that as I am with the other hose, what did you do with the other hose? I am pretty sure it is a hose that leads to the air idle assist valve, did you just leave that unhooked?
