I have read through this post, and I still don't understand WHY we need to jump these "service wires". By the way, it's the same wire that you "jump" in order to get the error code LED to tell you what codes are on, if your engine light goes on right?
What do the wires have to do with the timing?
What can get screwed up if you don't "jump" these wires?

yeah, kind of, i usually just use a paper clip to connect(jump) the two wires

 

When the service jumper is grounded the ECM stops adjusting timing. on 4g's they are located in the driverside below the shock tower (near the main mount)
