I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
I have tired the impossible to solve this problem.
My bolts holdling the manifold and the turbo together keep on coming out. I have tried everything. Lock-tight, locking washers, million set of bolts, and still, they come loose. It's precision SC-61 on a old school lovefab shorty manifold. Yes I realize that the turbo is heavy as balls, but any solutions out there for me?? I really don't want to spot weld the turbo and the manifold :'( TIA |
Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
spot weld the bolts ^-^

Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you using Grade 8 hardware? Make sure everything is super ------ tight and I can't see why it would keep coming off, unless your engine is shaking the ---- out of everything?

Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
At first I started out with studs, but that didn't work out so switched over to bolts.
Yah the manifold is threaded and the turbo isn't it. I was using 2 nuts on 2 of the bolts becuase the 2 in teh back end up hitting the runner or hidden by the runner and therefore you can't use nuts on the rear ones. Nevertheless, it still didn't work out for me. |
Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
id say the mount is causing you some issues. fix it.

Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
alright I will do my best to explain it this time.
First, regarding the mount, my motor doesnt really vibrate much at all, that's why it never occured to me. But I remembered this last night and said what a hell, that's probably my problem. So i'm fixing that this week for sure. As far as the botls and nuts, here it is When I first boosted, I used 4 studs, all the same. However, If you look at this picture of my manifold, you can't put nuts on the back studs. So right now 2 can have nuts and 2 can't have nuts. The front side. I use the inner holes, not the outer holes. http://www.lovefabinc.com//images/pr...orty%20002.jpg Here's the back side: Notice how you are looking at the outer holes. The inner holes which are the rear, you can't put a nut to the bolt or stud. The runner covers up the hole from up top. Also, when I say i went through many sets, everytime i change them and try something new, I use 4 of the same bolt or studs. I don't mix and match. I hope that made sense http://www.lovefabinc.com//images/pr...orty%20005.jpg |
Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
how about you buy some thread studs and weld them to the manifold
Ima have to draw a picture cause I cant explain it ;D |
Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
got carried away with the drawing

Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. That's a cool pic. I wish I could do that. :-\ Post that avatar of yours. I have yet to see that one up. I saw the others, but not that one.

Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
::OFFTOPIC: ( not intent to thread jack)
The avatar is just a pic of my turbo for my next project. I just finished piecing the kit together earlier today. On my new website im gonna have a section for animated gif and avatars that people can download ::back ONTOPIC:: ;D |
Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
wow, that's an awesome drawing Speedracer32.
I could do that as you suggested, but then again; I can only do that to the front two studs/bolts. The problem becomes in teh back ones, which go out first. Oh well, I just spot welded it in a few spots to where I'll be able to clean it extermely well next time i take it off. I put some locking washers, red locktight as usual. I'll see how it holds up this time. Thanks for the help fellas. |
Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
thanx man
Good luck this round let us know how it turns out ;) |
Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
That mount you broke is juat a torque mount. I doubt thast causing your problems, but since you do have the replacement already, FIX IT!

Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
how about safety wiring the nuts so they don't back off????????
doubt anyone here besides knows how to do it though :( |
Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
I was gonna suggest that, drill a hole through the nut+stud or bolt or whatever when it' torqued down, then run a piece of wire that is fairly snug through the hole. Unless whatever force is causing your turbo to become loose in the first place is strong enough to break the wire, it won't move.

Yea. Good idea. Like a carter pin or something. You still have to be worried about the seal and you don't have an exhaust leak though through the whole process. JP |
Re: I Give up! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
isnt it a cotter pin?
