hehehe,
I like your parents,
sounds like they're supporting your hobbies, cool

but anyways, did you have the car tuned? like on a dyno?
that could be why it blew, even with a good enginemanagement setup with bigger injectors.. and a hacked computer.. Its not all that great if you havent tuned it right!!

Thats all I can think of as to why it would blow
sorry.

One other thing(just popped into my head) maybe the engine just couldnt take that kind of power!? proper fueling or not?

so do you have the 4AFE i guess? cuz a 4AGE would prolly be more than 450$ at a junkyard, id think. how much boost were you running before the increase to 10psi? for how long had you been at that without problems? ive got a toyota with a a 5EFE that ive been collecting parts to boost for almost a year, and theres not alot of info for us toyota guys with the economy oriented engines. i was thinking around 6-8 psi would be the threshold on my car, and that 4A of yours as well...? did you run lean or crack a ring land, do you think? because our cars have pretty small ring lands, makes less pollution.

I have the 4a-fe engine in the car, it has been pretty stout, I've had the turbo kit on for like 8 months with between 6-8 pounds of boost, no problem. I'm not sure what happened yet, we'll see how far I get with the teardown tomorrow.

Pics are on their way!

sorry to hear it man, i think we're all morbidly curious on the toyota front to hear what killed it, i'll check back in tomorrow to see how far you get with the teardown. if i was a betting man, i would suspect mechanical failure of the pistons/rods not being able to absorb the abuse of 10psi. sorry again, man

I had my 4A-FTE running 12 psi all summer long, what size turbo did you have? I had the RHB5 on it, then I did one pass at 14 psi, and then a 3/4 pass at 15 psi...

I have a garrett t-3 off of a saab, i think it's .42/.48 trim. My engine management was definately lacking...

You had a turbo FE I wanna see some pics! Did you blow your motor too? You said you got 3/4 of a run at 15 psi. What did you run?

Here's some pics. The engine isn't out today, but it's coming out for sure tomorrow! All I have to disconnect are the fuel lines, driveshafts, and the wiring harness from the computer, and pull it through the firewall.

Here's a pic of the engine minus turbo and manifold. Notice all the black soot from the leaky header. You can also barely see the wiring for the DSM injectors.

Here's the FTB controller that I built, works, except it either made too much power or ran my engine lean...

The exhaust manifold gasket. Notice how it's all burnt and part of it is broken off. I really wish I had gotten my manifold shaved down flat after I welded it.

Misc. Turbo parts in the "turbo box". There's my 2.25 inch downpipe and the cheap *** pvc intercooler tubing.

The turbo, wastegate, manifold and oil return line. Surprisingly, the turbo (which has 100k + miles on it) is in pretty damn good shape. Especially considering the abuse it's been getting for the last 8 months. I didn't even have coolant lines connected up to it!

I'm most definately building me a new and stainless manifold before the turbo kit's going on the next engine!
