hyundai manifolds

as the topic says, anyone think they could do some hyundai tubular manifolds? preferably for accents, first and second gen. i can get you dimensions for clearence and stuff, and gaskets for headflanges. gimmie a price. they have alot more clearence then crx's do.

Re: hyundai manifolds

if it's got a 4G motor then you might be able to use the DSM turbo manifold since alot of the older korean peices of ---- used to use them in their cars.

Re: hyundai manifolds

yeah.. but it isnt for a 4g motor. its for a g4ek 1.5 alpha motor.

I am also interested because my girlfriend has a 97 Tiburon with the I4 2.0 in it. An has been begging me to turbo it I tell her to get a Honda but she won't so to shut her up I have been looking for some stuff to do it with but sorry to jack your post but I am also interested.

Re: hyundai manifolds

I can do it in about 6 months. I will be starting at griffin tech for welding at the beginning of this year...plenty of access to great welders and weldors. Hoping to be doing random stuff like this for folks on the forums and stuff. Later

Re: hyundai manifolds

If you have the 1.5 you can get a hyundai scoupe turbo manifold and bolt it right up, thats I did. As far as the tib motor (2.0) you can check KSPEC.com I think they have one or two. I think they even have a new 1.5 manifold. Also try performancesylingcentre.com.au they have a few types of 1.5 manifold. Im currently boosted on stock internals running 10psi... Lately I've been boosting at 11psi ;-)

Re: hyundai manifolds

yeah i know i could do the scoupe manifold, but they suck and have tiny ass ports, and they have the slave cyl clearance issue. and tibs are awsome for boosting, alot of peeps in korea have made big power (500+) daily driver tibby's. theres nothing wrong with boosting a hyundai, they just havent caught on like hondas have yet. remeber when people thought you were a complete jackass for modding a honda?

Re: hyundai manifolds

It will take a few losses before the realization kicks in about their power.

It reminds me of a video I used to have of an SRT10 truck and a POS Accent hatch going at it on the free way. The Accent hatch had the hood cut open for the small IC to stick out and there were some other things aside from being strpped that made it notable. It raped the SRT10 pretty hard. Not sure how much different if it had been a Viper, but still a very cool video, I wish I had it.

We can help you out, just takes some time to custom make the head flanges.

SRT10's are gay trucks, and that Accent had a 4G63 engine in it, stock sidemount, hence the guy cutting a hole in his hood ruining a perfectly good sleeper...

Re: hyundai manifolds

Here is a quick vid of a 03 mustang gt manual running a hyundai accent with boost. The mustang has mods as well. If a manifold is made I would love to see pics as I wouldnt mind a new one. The slave cylinder clearance is a real PITA but it can be overcome. The ports however are very small. My built engine in the shed with the p&p head wont like the small ports.... Let me see some work !

Re: hyundai manifolds

i dont know if this is your hyundai (h22) that you want this made for, or if yur looking into some for friends as well.. but i think that the beta engine would take to boost nicely... one of my friends was considering doing the beta swap in an accent but later just got an elantra... im gonna help him turbo it this summer if hes got the funding...

h22rex 12-07-2005 02:31 AM

Re: hyundai manifolds

its for an accent i have, and for some friends cars, and i know the people on hyundaiperformance.com would love to get some custom manifolds done up, if the price is right. the head flange shouldent be a problem, i'll even buy them outright from someone who does them and ship them to the fabricator. i just wanna see it done, and for cheap.. which is HMT style. the g4ek is a ------- strong motor, you can beat the ---- out of them. i really wanna see this done, the only real option that peeps have right now is to use the piece of ---- scoupe manifold, or buy a beta (tibby) motor and swap it in, then use an expensive (700+) dollar manifold, or custom fab one up themseives, or you could buy one from austrialia for rediculous price. i know someone here wouldnt mind doing it. give me a price. like i said, should be easier then a dseries honda.

Re: hyundai manifolds

I am positve that if someone makes the manifolds for the 1.5 they will sell quite a few of them. Everyone on Hyundaiperformance.com is tired of the scoupe manifold lol You can already mark me down for one. The 1.5 is very turbo friendly along with the ecu. Ecu compensates for timing up to 12psi which is great.... Im now running 11psi on stock internals soon to be 12 when my balls are big enough.... On a side note my Dad just bought a sweet welder and said he would try to make a manifold up, any idea where to get the flange? Also I forgot to post the video in my last post like an idiot.... here you guys go : http://clubaccentquebec.com/video/turbo/mustang.avi

You will probably need divx or divx codecs to play.

Re: hyundai manifolds

yeah. the one dude on here makes flanges, uh, i forget his screenname. you just send him the gasket. thats why i dont think it will be hard to get one. omgbossis21 is right. the hyundai tuners are in the stoneage, and they need some HMT help.

Re: hyundai manifolds

Yea and I need to get up with him for a Beta header Flange for my girls 2.0L tiburon so I can get this thing boosted. omgbossis21 what yr is your car? Mine has the MAF I was hoping this would alow me to run low boost without having to do major fueling upgrades I am just going to let her boost 8psi on a t-25 but yea I get on Hyundaiperformance and I really don't see any good info on do-it-yourself projects.

Re: hyundai manifolds

I have a 98 accent 1.5sohc. It has a maf. Go find yourself (if you have the 1.5) a set of tiburon injectors (240cc) and a tiburon maf (plug and play). Thats what Im using, the bigger maf can compensate for alot more boost along with the injectors. I am officially running 11psi on stock internals now. Eventually 12 lol

Just give me the specifics on the motor and what year car its in and i can have the Flanges made. If you have people interested, I can set up a group buy. Pm me for more info.

Re: hyundai manifolds

omgbossis21 I do have a Tiburon(or my girl does) I just mite get bigger injectors and hope that will work the only thing scaring me is the compression ratio is 10:3:1 that is high but LSD I would like a header flange I think I pm'ed you about a log mani but I think I am going to fabricate one so I need the header flange for a 97 inline 4 2.0 Liter Tiburon pm me thanks.

Re: hyundai manifolds

PMed you =-) I am running 11psi with a 10:1 compression ratio....

Re: hyundai manifolds

the sante fe 2.4l 4 banger (or sonata 2.4l 4 banger) MAF is even bigger then the tibby one. but you need to use a bigger throttle body. omgbossis, are you running a tib throttle body? that makes HUGE diffrence in how the motor runs. for injectors, you can use DSM injectors, if the plugs are wrong, just splice the DSM plugs into the stock harness. i am trying to find a tib motor to swap into this thing now, cause i dont wanna mess with another 1.5l 12v motor. the tib motor is like a 4g63. its basically cousins with it. its a very very robust motor, and i dont doubt you could push 12 psi on it. oh, and omgbossis, pull your intake manifold off and port match it. the ports on alpha motors are beyond horrible. when i pulled my old 1.5 apart the amount of overlap on the ports for the lower and upper intake was insane.

omgbossis21 12-09-2005 02:44 PM

Re: hyundai manifolds

I doubt the sante fe maf is plug and play, or is it? I dont want to have to rewire my maf. I have a Tib Throttle body, its the exact same size as the IM port. I have a second motor built (and being built) at the momemt. It has scoupe turbo pistons, milled to raise the compression to 8:1, shot peened rods, rebalanced crank, p&p head, getting a 3 angle valve job done soon. You say to port the IM, it would be hard as hell to port the runners with such a curve on them. Maybe the openings but then the runners not any bigger..... As far as dsm injectors they would not only have to be rewired but a resistor pack would have to be installed. Im sourcing some #36 mustang injectors, which would be perfect with a rising rate and are plug and play. I plan on running upwards of 20psi on my engine im building now. a tib (2.0) motor is turbo friendly, however the ecu isnt very friendly. 12 psi is more thank likely feasible on it though. The tib motor isnt like a 4g63 and im pretty sure that they even sit 180 degrees different. If you boost a 2.0 expect to max the maf voltage quickly, I think most guys are maxing it at like 8 maybe 10psi. They also have a problem with the ecu causing a extreme lean condition around 3000rpm or so, which they have had no luck correcting with a safc just piggyback or standalone. You can find alot of info on it at turbohyundai.com or hyundaiperformance. Im not sure what else they run into as I havent been that route but it can definitely be done (and has been done) with that motor.
