Hybrid HX40, will it work??
I just picked up a rebuilt Holset HX40. I'm pretty happy with it minus the fact that it only has a ~60.5mm~ or so. I building my crx to run in a "True Street" style class where you can run up to a 67mm compressor and I'd like to take advantage of that rule as much as possible. Does anyone know if a HX50 or HX52 has a compressor anywhere near 67mm? If so, Would I be able to simply do a compressor swap like on a garrett or is it more difficult than that

Re: Hybrid HX40, will it work??
I replied to your PM,
Here is the basic answer as I understand it: Yes it can be done, no it shouldn't be done. The HX40 and HX35 share the center section and shafts, the shaft is a known weakness of the hx 40, so to add a compressor that is another ~6mm bigger will put some severe leverage on that small shaft. I would personally either find a 50 and put the 40 turbine onto it, or I would find a 52, or goto another manufacturer. |
Re: Hybrid HX40, will it work??
Given the formentioned weak shaft in the HX40 series. I would go with a full HX52, or go with something else.
