Default how to set timing belt

can anyone tell me how i set my cam timing belt tdc..i ve tried and tried and my car idles really rough like on 2 cylinders..i need to know how to set the block and the head??

take off belt, rotate crank so that #1 and #4 pistons are at the top of the block (tdc). you can do this by sticking a screw driving in the spark plug hole in the 1 or 4 cyl. when tghe screw driver stops moving upward it's at tdc (not 100% accurate). then rotate the cams so that the arrows are pointing up and the hash marks are lined up. put belt back on and you're good.
