how is my oil feed?

well i put this piece together at the hardware store. some people on h-t are telling me that i shouldn't use it and that there is a 100% chance it will "bust off"... i see you guys use setups like this all the time. installed it is very sturdy to the point were i can lift the block up (its out of the car) by the fitting.

feedback?

looks good
your gonna need some type of restrictor cuz thats alot of oil going through there

Re: how is my oil feed?

Looks nice and beefy. It's possible it could break off because of how long it is, but after you said you can pick up the engine by it I seriously doubt that's going to happen.

Re: how is my oil feed?

hmm i didnt figure it would be a problem running that size, i believe its 3/8s. too big?

i dont think ive seen one with a restrictor before, have any pics?

Re: how is my oil feed?

dont forget teflon paste so it doesnt leak. btw autozone sells those and they're brass. they're in the sunpro ----.

Re: how is my oil feed?

that fitting looks like npt if its from a hardware, you should be using bsp, also you will need a restrictor using that large of a fitting... but its your car. You should just get the right stuff from tunertoys or stealthmode and never have to question it again.

Re: how is my oil feed?

yeah like i said im a noob so npt and bsp dont make any sense to me, anyone care to enlighten me? :1

Re: how is my oil feed?

npt= national pipe threaded, bsp= british pipe threaded. Think of it as standard and metric. You WON'T be able to screw that into your existing oil pressure sensor hole without cross threading like a mofo. You need something that will be like:

(stock oil pressure sensor)--->NPT----pipe----BSP----->(block)

Your block accepts a BSP fitting. Don't try to shove an NPT fitting up in dat azz, beeatch :6

Re: how is my oil feed?

hmmm.... thats odd it screwed right in even with teflon tape. should i get a new fitting just to be safe?

Re: how is my oil feed?

ive done it just like that before and it worked fine, its 1/8" not 3/8" ;) its not the correct size but works fine :P

Re: how is my oil feed?

there might be a reason why honda doesnt use a npt oil pressure sensor ::)

Re: how is my oil feed?

well i must have bsp because the oil sensor and the threaded tube fitting screw in just the same into the t. how can i be sure of what i have, do they have markings?

Re: how is my oil feed?

I think I've seen one actual picture of anything breaking off the back of the block. It was a pipe setup just like you have, but I still don't think that means ----.
If you ask me, the "everything will break off the block" crowd is the same crowd that will tell you only honda bearings work in honda motors, and it's just not true.

The critical point of making that thing work is getting the threads to stay in the block. Because the other end of the pipe is threaded, you can (and should) install that pipe into the block as if you never ever ever want it to come out. This is probably going to involve thread locker on the threads of it, as well as some jb weld on the outside of it once it's tightened in. Don't tighten it too tight, but just enough. Now, as long as those threads don't ever come out of the block, you aren't going to have anything to worry about because the other fittings can be changed to your liking later if needed.
I've actually been meaning to do a block fitting torture test on a junk block, but Jago just hasn't brought it to me yet. ;) I know the crowd will say I can't duplicate the vibrations and the temperature changes, but I'm confident in my ability to torture things until they break that alot of them will use at least a little bit of logic before passing the rumor around some more.

Re: how is my oil feed?

yeah i was debating on throwing some jb weld on this bitch.

Re: how is my oil feed?

I know I'm supposed to tell you it's not going to work and that you should order my stuff, but if you do it right, the Homemade gods will grant you clemency.

With the length of the pipe leaving the weight even further from the block, and that you're using the wrong threads, you are going to need to install this one time. Use thread locker, and a mound of jb weld around the base of it. Once you install it, don't try to take it out for any reason and you'll be good. Maybe even a ziptie up the feedline attaching it in a fashion that will take some of the weight/stress off of it to be safe.

Re: how is my oil feed?

post a picture of the line you are going to run with that fitting for the feed. Good luck w/ that.

Re: how is my oil feed?

i was just going to run the napa hose that holds 350 psi, would there be a problem with that? :X

also thanks for the info stealthmode, ill be coming to you for an oil feed kit once i get my boosted ls up and going.
