how much psi could an air box handle?

ok so you might ask why im askin this question, so ill tell you. i have a y7 and the intake for the y7 is on the top. eventually i plan on swappin intake manis, so that would mean i would have to do a little cutting to the ic piping, yada yada yada. i know its not much work like at all, but the thing is i was thinkin i could just connect my ic piping to the air filter box on the intake mani.

the only problem is i dunno how much pressure could be held inside that box, has anyone else tried this, or thought of tryin this? i am only plannin on running 8-9 psi tops for now anyways.

and also if the box could handle the pressure, this would also eliminate the need for me to worry about doing something to the crankcase ventilation right, because it would still be hooked up to the air filter box.

lemme know your guys thoughts.

thanx

matt.

I would guess that it can handle nothing. Like zero pressure almost. Definately not 7psi or anything like that.

if you seal it up good i am sure it will hold at least "some" boost

BTW even if you are using the intake box, you still have to remove the valve cover=> intake tube vaccume hose.

just run the ic piping thru the box and pipe if your trying to hide it

u cant just take it off??? my friend put an intake on his y7 and he just took it off and used 90 bend to connect it and it worked great...

yea i can take it off, only takes like 2 seconds, i was just sayin since i am going to swap intake manis eventually it would be less modification if the pipes wen directly into the side of the box instead of the top of the intake mani on the y7. because then when i swapped intakes i would have to do practically no modification to the ic piping.

Why don't you just cut the pipe where the intake will be and use a coupler and another piece of pipe to route it into your existing one. Then when you get the new one, all you have to do is remove the extra extension.
