How many pounds of boost can I safely run without an FMU?
I'm thinking 2-3, does that sound right? I won't have any money to get an fmu for a month or so but I'd like to put my turbo on. '92 tercel 3EE, stock internals.

I would just wait a month until you have the FMU. I guess you could do it if you want, but I wouldn't want to risk blowing my engine.

Be patient.... you cant go about half assing things... cause youll get half assed results... and not only will you be saving up for an FMU... but for a new engine as well if you blow that ---- up... better to be safe than sorry.... but if you must.,... if your engines anything like a honda... i heard it can take less than 5 psi...

Re:How many pounds of boost can I safely run without an FMU?
I just pulled my blue box out and am using the factory ECU for the 97 d16y7 motor. I can run UP to 4 psi before it burns lean. At 2.5-4 it burns in the stoich area.
This was only to bring up my fuel economy, performance absolutely blows ass; so I'd just wait! Oh and not only to say, the air at the second o2 sensor is ALWAYS lean now and at higher boost I can cause the lovely white smoke, and boy does it smell like ----. Just wait :) |
Re:How many pounds of boost can I safely run without an FMU?
YOU CAN RUN EXACTLY 0 PSI WITHOUT THE FMU. ADDING BOOST WITHOUT ADDING FUEL WILL NOT ADD ANY REAL POWER, AND POSSIBLY DESTROY YOUR ENGINE, DON'T EVEN RISK IT!!!!!!!
