How to lower boost (page not up)

I just want to know how you lower boost because the link in FAQ is down. I have an internal wastegate, the 13g auto dsm turbo and Ive heard that you just bend it in the wastegate arm actuator, I guess its obvious but how far should I bend it in to get about 6 psi, thanks :o

You just have to lenqthen the arm.

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

How? All I heard was that pushing the actuator in towards it would lower the boost,, if so you got any pics of how to do it

you can cut the actuator in half thread both ends and use somthing to lengthen or shorten the actuator how you want.

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

so basically the metal stick or line running to the wastegate, cutting it or whatever, but wouldnt bending it in be easier to do?

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

ok , i get the shortening of the actuator arm part (metal line), but when you do that, if you make it shorter does that make less boost and when you lengthen it does it give more boost

more length= more boost
less length= less boost ............................????

actuator-------------extended-----------wastegate
actuator----shortened----wastegate -------------------- is this what i want for lower boost

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

im pretty sure lengthening the wastegate arm lowers boost

i would say so also, cuz the shorter the arm, when the WG opens, its would open for longer

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

Longer = less
shorter = more
bend = shorter = more

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

when you lengthen the actuator arm, you arm lowering the wastegate, ie, it will open at a lower psi

quit being such a ----- ;)

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

go get an actuator that opens at the right psi, lengthening it will give you lots of lag

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

sorry to bring it up again but if you bend in the actuator towards the wastegate that lengthens the arm making less boost

ghettoturbo 03-30-2005 12:55 PM

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

how would bending anything make it longer...unless yours is starting with a big bend in it, is that how it is?

jacob_kohler 03-30-2005 04:09 PM

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

it wouldnt make the arm longer, but it would push the arm in the actuator more, if thats the case, then thats how the boost is lowered from what im hearing

ghettoturbo 03-30-2005 04:11 PM

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

what do you mean push the arm in the actuator in? just make the arm longer or get a new actuator, which is the better idea

jacob_kohler 03-30-2005 04:17 PM

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

the reason i brought it up is because I saw the Boost on a Budget article in honda tuning and they just bent in the support bracket which holds the actuator in towards the wastegate/turbo

ghettoturbo 03-30-2005 04:45 PM

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

bending the bracket is different than bending the rod itself, yes bending the bracket in or otherwise moving it closer (longer bolts and washers) will lower the boost, but again, you will get lag

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

WAit, Will a boost controller, in my case a manual boost controller, do the job for how much boost i want instead of messing with the actuator/internal wastegate, so that will control the wastegate itself right? Please let me know asap

ghettoturbo 03-31-2005 10:36 AM

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

boost controllers can only raise boost

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

You can also lower boost by clocking the turbo and making more "slack" between the actuator and flapper. I turned my T3 down to 5 lbs like that.

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

ALright one more question, would it be better to go external wastegate so I can lower my boost instead of lowering it on the internal by lengthening the arm,,,since you get trubo lag by lengthening it? anyone got an opinion

Re: How to lower boost (page not up)

If I get a 7psi spring (0.48 BAR) boost levels will be maintained at 7psi, but how do you install it on a factory wastegate actuator, pull the thing apart and reseal it, or someone does it professionally?
