Most companies balance their turbine and compressor wheels separatly from the factory. If you are changing either of the wheels, a new garrett or turbonetics wheel is also going to come pre-balanced alone. Most have nothing to worry about.. but I have no idea how you would tell how yours was balanced. Maybe 90% of the time you will be fine.
The premature wear of an unblanced turbo isn't going to kill you.. you will need to replace the bearings in a few months if it happens... then you know to balance it. I say just do it without balancing unless you actually can get that $35 because that is a great price!

Took my .48/.60 apart, replaced the piston ring in it with a turbonetics "stagger gap" piston ring. Put it back together and haven't had any problems. Although i think it could use a professional rebuld because it didn't solve the smoking, just made it a little better. Still spooled like a raped ape though :6

Yeah, I just mailed the wheels to turbo city (after contacting the guy in rebuilding first). I actually got them back the same week across the country. I'm not saying it won't work without balancing them but if you go thru all the trouble (in my case, I rebuilt the turbos) may as well pony up the 35 and have it done right. The alignment on them is just two magic marker stripes that yo align. They also clean them so even the turbine wheel looks brand new.

PS: If u kno of a shop that does cheap turbo balancing please post :)
Thank you

Balance the turbo....Once balanced, it should last the life of the engine if used at reasonable boost pressure. Most of you guys are boosting under 15 psi, unless you're using a teensy snail, it should last a while....
