How hard is the o2 sensor screwed on there?

Jebus, how hard is this thing on there. It feels like I'm about to break my wrench trying to get it off. You guys using a 20mm right? Any tips on getting this thing off? Why would this thing be trq'ed so tight, I don't understand.

Re: How hard is the o2 sensor screwed on there?

i would spray some WD-40 or PB Blaster on their and let it soak if its that hard to get out. Mabey just pull your skirt up a little :P

slip like a 4ft pipe on the end of a pipe wrench and some thrust or pb blaster. i was able to get both of my o2's out that way

They didnt invent the O2 Sensor socket for nothing. ::) just get the one that is 1/2 socket and use a breaker bar and that O2 sensor should be out in no time.

Re: How hard is the o2 sensor screwed on there?

The best way is going to be to get some leverage on that beotch just make sure you soaked it in some PB ----. Otherwise you may be better off just replacing the sensor as well.

yah they invented it to make money off it. this is HMT remember? pipe wrench worked great, channel locks work great to get it on and off whenever i need to do something that involves removing the dp

last time i changed the sensor i broek so many socket that i end up buying a used manifold with the sensor already off.

my precat one came off easy with a vice grip. i just pulled hard.

Re: How hard is the o2 sensor screwed on there?

I used a table vise and lots of PB Blaster and a breaker bar to get a seized O2 out once. Instead of unseizing it just ripped all of the threads out of the manifold leaving a somewhat clean threadless hole :-\

you're obviously a dumb ---- since those shitty o2 sensor sockets will break/strip the o2 sensor if you put any sort of force on them. faggot.

Re: How hard is the o2 sensor screwed on there?

How can you not get it off or at least break it?

I have broken a couple of them, it isn't very hard.

If I know I am gonna take mine out, I just start spraying it with WD-40 or PB blaster a couple days ahead, each day. It soaks in well and is like butter comming out. there after.

Re: How hard is the o2 sensor screwed on there?

It's not coming out, I let it soak for 2 days already, with a bunch of wd40 each few hours. It's not because I don't have enough force on it, I'm using a 36inch breaker bar, and I don't want to stripe all the threads out. How do I un-seized this thing, and what the hell does seized mean? ;D

h22rex 09-30-2005 06:38 PM

Re: How hard is the o2 sensor screwed on there?

seized means its fused to something. so, to unseize it, heat it up with a torch like you were told before. Just heat the lug of the sensor, not the manifold. when (or if) you get it out, when you go to put the new sensor in, coat the threads with antiseize, dont get any on the end of the probe. goodluck.

lkailburn 10-01-2005 01:35 AM

Re: How hard is the o2 sensor screwed on there?

try a can of thrust. i found that to work better than wd and pb blaster.

get a torch and evenly torch the entire nut till its really really really really fuggin hott. (hot metal expands) then get a pipe wrench and slip a longer bar on there like a 6ft or somethin and just twist it out

Racintweek 10-01-2005 10:40 AM

Re: How hard is the o2 sensor screwed on there?

torch wins every time, guaranteed

once you get it out, mka esure you add some extra Anti-Seize , the little bit that comes on them isnt enough

Ya Spencers right, I have a Snap On one and it also ------s. Cut the wires of and slide a box wrench or deep socket over it or you will strip the ------- thing.

Re: How hard is the o2 sensor screwed on there?

or

u can cut the tab off the grey piece that holds the clip on that little metal tab/bracket

then the remaining connection should go through a 7/8" wrench with a bit of fussing

96_civ 10-01-2005 04:46 PM

Re: How hard is the o2 sensor screwed on there?

try puttin the wrench on it, and hittin the wrench with a rubber mallet, a few fast quick taps should break it loose (after you heat it up) if you dont have a wrench just let you car run for 5 mins, and watch your hands so you dont burn the hell out of em.

then once its out piss on it and call it names and tell it how much it was pwnd.

matt
