Re:how does a external wastegate work?
How does it work? Do you know how an internal WG works? Same ----, just different locations and the external is more reliable/accurate.

Re:how does a external wastegate work?
but the internal is hooked up with the little flapper thing... does the extranal have a diffrent set up or the same thing? im lost ???

Re:how does a external wastegate work?
Well, the internal has that "flapper thing" which is the actual wastegate. That flapper re-routes exhaust gas to go around the hot side of the turbo and out the exhaust to prevent any more boost from being produced. The external does that same thing, but it re-routes the exhaust before it even hits the turbo so it has a better way of getting rid of the exhaust. Same ----, just different. ;)

oooooooohhhhhhhhh i see... thanks boost

Re:how does a external wastegate work?
so from what you said Boost the external is the better of the two.. only because it gets rid of the exhaust before it hits the turbo..?

Re:how does a external wastegate work?
Yes, but that's beside the point. The externals looks way better than the internals and we all know looks=power. :P

Re:how does a external wastegate work?
Internal gates tend to creep a bit more, since the flappers are sometimes smaller, and most of the exhaust housings on turbos have cracks ;) But, lots of people have sucsess running large amounts of boost on internals. I just like using externals, because my boost never creeps or fluctuates, it holds hard at where I want it to. Also external wastegate mounting is important too, where its at on the manifold can cause problems.
