how do i find out what psi my internal gate is running?
hey guys,
anyone care to grace me knowlage as to how i find out what psi the internal waste gate on my air resarch t3 turbo is set to?
i got the kit with 4 miles on it (the lad previously couldnt tune and though he bust his engine-so i got the full kit cheap-uber cheap brand new)
short of actully fitting the turbo and running it to determine the boost level is there anyway i can figure out what psi the gate is set to open at?
the turbo came with a screw type ajustable boost valve (attatched via a tube between the compresser housing outlet and the tube then runs to the screw valve then to the wastegate actuator) but again i have no idea as to what that is even set to :?
i have tried concating the lad i got the kit from but he cannot remember
anyway seeming as this is my first post i might as well intoduce myself. im 24, from u.k. i own a 93 honda crx (delsol) with a b16a2 lump. i also co-run www.delsoluk.com here in the uk with 3 other guys. this is my first boosted honda (i have has a second gen with a d16a9 for 6 months then i got my delsol which i have ran for the last 3 years- car has done 130000 miles and doesnt burn/smoke or even use any oil
- then again i change it every 2-3000 miles with castaol gtx magnatec fully synth
)
anyho here is my car (yes thats original paint from the factory on it)
cheers

sweet, my sisters boyfriend is a mechanic and owns his own garage and he has a large compressor there.
so what you are saying is to say hook my boost gauge into the pipe going to the actuator- use compressed air to get the boost gauge to read the boost level at what point the actuator opens?
ie:
(hose to acuator with air being forced into it-->) ---------T--------------[actuator here]
i
i
i
(boost gauge)
the (------) is the line to the actuator and the (T) is a T peice fitting. in fact i have a digital tyre inflaror that reads in psi and is fairly accurate, would that work?
cheers

I think what you described will work. You just need to have a gauge hooked up to see at what pressure does it fully open.I normally just use the regulator on the compressor to turn down the air pressure to say 5psi then open it up slowly to see when the actualtor opens. Most compressor have gauges that are not very accurate down low so you may have to find something that will regulate it presisely at low pressure. The mechanic should understund what you are trying to do just tell him you need to see when the actaultor opens.
That in cabin boost controler is just going to confuse you.
Hook it up to a compresor with a regulator. And you can figure it out.
At the same time take your in cabin do dad and try some setings.
And mark them off on the valve so you get a good idea what opening gives what boost.
Better than ideling with it blidlly and seeing how fast you can blow up the motor.

right
directly onto the wastegate its opening at 28.5 psi :? (wastegate valve opens loads)
though through the boost controller its opening at 10 to 10.5 psi and only moving the wastegate open a small ammount.
am i going to be better to ajust the rod legnth going from the actuator to the wastegate flange? or shall i just ajust the boost valve to my set psi? im concerned that the wastegate flange wont open enougth.
its strange that the actuator arm moved open slightly at 10.5psi then vented all the compressed gas through the valve. though directly on the pump to the actuator it kept the pressure at 28.5 psi after the air stopped until i un-attatched the air line (the pump will digtialy put in anywhere from 0.5psi to 100psi depending on what i set it at- it was set for 30 max)
