Right, please understand that my Dad is a tradesmen: Plumber and Pipefitter. Haha, yea so when it comes to stuff like this 1) I say dumb stuff that he doesn't know what I mean because I use the wrong words 2) He doesn't really agree with anything unless A goes to A and B goes to B juuuuuuust right 3) He's been in his local for hmmm, 34 years? (a estimator, thank God, right now though).


Bottom line, he's very particular about fittings and what not mostly because he's dealt with them his whole life, but if it works rock it. I think we're giong the set screw way though.

He'S right.
Compression fittings have threads designed just to hold the flares together. not for sealing. these threads are not tappered and not even compatible with standard pipe threads. Even with lock tite and teflon type, it will always be leaky at best, and possibly a cause of even worst problems. All that for saving 5$ ?

I will get bashed big time for saying this, but IMO, 90% of a turbo setup is made of easy tasks that ANYONE can perform and rig together pretty easily with low chances of failure, with some FUN doing it and with MAJOR money savings and That's what HMT is about. But there are some other areas (such as the TURBO, the oil lines, the tuning...) that are very critical for which the small amounts of money saved by DIY just doesn't make sense considering the potential consequences on you, your car, your wallet and/or your schedule if you screw it up.

 

I tried to explained that to this guy http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Turbo...QQcmdZViewItem but he think it does not matter, I've used 2 of his fittings and they both leak, because the restrictor piece in the center stop the tapered ends from mating.

 

that's some pretty neat ideas.....i would have never thought of doing it like that....(a friend showed me this) when i was in a pinch i had some nitrous jets laying around so i went to the hardware store and got a brass one of these



and filed the flared tip down till it was flat...then dropped a nitrous jet in and was done...creates a flared union and doesn't leak at all...worked great...the guy who shared the idea with me used a #46 jet but i think i used #42

 

just a ? i have the function7 t3 oil feed fitting on my turbo and it already has a pretty small hole.has any one else run this fitting and still get to much oil pressure....i will starting the car for the first time boosted in a few days and would be pissed if my brand new turbo ---- on me

This idea could be ptented and sold!

 

I just took a random bolt that fit loosely in the hole and a had a head that covered the hole, dremeled off the side of the head until I could see a little bit down the hole and bam, done. Screwed everything together and got smoke free sweetness.

 

atp sells these too if your lazy and wana spend $14 or dont wana buy an adjustable one and mess with adjusting it like me

 

I would never use something adjustable. That's crazy.
#1... it doesn'T need to be adjusted and #2 it's a wonderfull opportunity for a catastrophic failure if you or anyone else touches it accidentaly. ...Just like a nice "BTM" button on your dash, for example.

The best restrictor IMO is the one sold by turbonetics. it's included on most of their turbos.

it's not just a tiny hole. it features a small block of brass that's made by powder-metallurgy. it's basically a porous piece of brass that looks like a sponge. It does restrict oil flow and filters it at the same time.
