my previous setup was like that, but I wanted just a strait forward setup without teeing in a gauge. and since most of the gt turbos comes with a built in restrictor, I decided to follow their footsteps.

Posted this more than a year ago on both HMT and HT.

So I had a 14b that smoked quite bit and a while ago I bought an oil restrictor from an aircraft supply store. The hole was a bit small. And the concensus seems to be that .060 is a good size for the hole. I believe ATP turbo or some other company sells them with this size hole. Anyway.. I paid 10 shipped. And It worked great.

then I got thinking...

Parts list:
-1 1/8NPT double male
-1 1/8NPT Double female
-1 1/8NPT square head plug
-small length of teflon tape

Of course I did have tools sitting around which I used... and maybe you don't have them. In that case... you should have them and shame on you.

Dremel w/ cutting wheel
1/8 NPT tap
1/16 drill bit
drill
beer
small screwdriver

-so buy the parts... get the plug... and cut the very tip of the threads off. You will be using just the tip. NPT is tapered a bit so you won't be able to fit much of the plug down into the female but the very tip should go all the way in.

-Get the double female and tap one side. This will allow the lil plug to go even deeper into the hole.

-Get the lil disc of plug and cut a groove into it so you can use a screwdriver to twist the plug into the thread.

-screw the disc of plug into the tapped end of the double female.

-Now get the 1/16 bit and drill a hole right in the middle of the plug.

-Now that all the fine motor skill stuff is done go have a beer.

-put a lil teflon tape on the end of the double male and screw it into the tapped side of the double female.

-You're done! No more turbo smoke... hopefully.

This will go on a friend's car which has a junkyard turbo. These oil restrictors are a must IMO for older turbos but definitely can't hurt if you have an expensive *** turbo. You can do your own research on hole size but I think 1/16 is the best way to go.

I think its a must on new and old turbos, I've ran 2 old turbos, and a total of 4 new tubos, and they all smoke do to too much oil pressure, my oil pressure 75-80 psi. thats too much pressure for any turbo even if you are running a 3 am line. its not not small enough I am running 3 an.

1/8"NPT male/female fitting (52 cents)
JB Weld
1/16" drill bit (0.0625")

Filled the fitting, let cure standing straight, tap (file) threads if you've put some JB on threads.

Voilà.

JB Weld formed a shoulder inside the fitting so it should stay in place.

hmm... same idea as my restrictor but I'd feel kinda iffy having the oil constantly applying hot oily pressure on the JB. Wouldn't want to give my turbo a JBweld dinner.

Drill bit for the hole is 1/16". 2 reasons for that:

1-it is the smallest that I have
2-it is close to the 0.060" orifice that we see everywhere. 1 divided by 16 gives 0.0625".

I putted a ball of aluminum foil in the female part to prevent JB going too much into the threads, filled the male part, tapping fitting on a hard surface at each addition of JB to release any air trapped. When enough full, I flipped the fitting upside down to let it cure.

DO NOT USE JB WELD FOR OIL RESTRICTOR!!!!!!!!! I have done it and it failed on me, the jb weld didnt expand and contract like the brass fittings, it cracked, lodged itself in the turbo, choked it off and killed it.

Set screw FTW!!!

do you need an oil restrictor only if you have high oil pressure or is it always recomended what is average oil pressure on an integra. i have an oil pressure gauge but i am build my setup as we speak so its not up and running head gasket etc.
