homemade manifold might be warped, what should I do??

ok, I made my oown manifold, looks great and fits great, but I went to do my final install of it tonight and the passenger side bottom bold doesn't tighten down tight enough. It ahs like less than a 1/16th of an inch to tighten (one full turn of the bolt) what can I do about this? I've checked to see if the turbo is hitting on anything, but everything looks great. Do you think that if I double gasket it, it would maybe work?

looks like it warped when you heated it up (welding it) you should just take it to a machine shop and have them fix it. simple and youwont have to worry about it leaking all the time.

Whatever it costs, its probably worth it. The first turbo Corolla had a warped flange and I ran it like that, sounded like ----, black soot all over the engine bay... Get it resurfaced and you'll be happy with it!

i'm gonna have to get it resurfaced, it took me a lot of hrs making it and about $75.

I'm going to do the same with mine. Hackish on this board made mine and the drivers side is off a fraction of a mm. So we are going to get it machined as well. The flange we used is pretty thick, so machining a fraction of a mm would be fine.

let me get this straight..???? you made your manifold and one of the bolts wont go in all the way???? if this is the case... just grind some of the weld enough to get the bolt to fit flush on the flange...

that happend to me... and it was leaking bad till i grinded that ---- off... then i torqued it down and it never leaked again....

What kind of hook up do you have?

Re:homemade manifold might be warped, what should I do??

you could also just lay the whole thing flat on a belt sander not the wood/flooring kind though a stationary oen

haha belt sander??? Do you know how hard it would be to get that thing to be perfectly smooth and flat?

my dad knows the owener of the machine shop, so he gives me hook ups :)

most machine shops actually use a belt sander for flange surfaces. The belt just rides across a perfectly flat surface. I'm sure they don't refer to it as a belt sander... but it uses a sanding belt and looks kind of like one.

A little bit late on the advice, but next time you do the custom setup, it's nice to have a junker head around to bolt the thing to when doing your final welds, that way the heat won't warp it. Tack welds really don't hurt it as bad, but when you start pouring a bunch of wire into the bitch all in a short time period, the heat will ---- it up.

Nice that you have the machine shop hookups, wish i did.
