Homemade adapter plates?

Who on here has made there own?
I'm wonder how hard this actually is cause I wanna try to make one possibly instead of buying. I think i saw a thread where someone made it out of aluminum or something and it melted?
So is it just mild steel?

i used i piece of 3/4" seel to make an adpter plate for a hf manifold to IHI turbo. well, i actually whent ot a local welding shop and had them cut me the steel and cut a hole in it for me to start with. i drilled it to fit the turbo and maifold, and smoothed it out alot. i really dont think it is worth the trouble, considering the price and quality of one professionally made.

yea I made mine to. Now how much the machine shop makes them for,I would just buy one too.You need access to a drill press and such to make the job easy and clean.

Becareful though. Weir has seen the results of my shitty adaptor plate. I melted an oil line and a timing belt cover because it leaked REALLY BAD.

I Got pissed off that day, towed the car home and WELD the adaptr plate to my 14b. Works great if I never get rid of the HF mani

Hmm..thanks for the replys.
Weir, i do like making things myself. You just take more pride in it, especially when people ask.
If I stubble upon something in the art dept. or the home depot I might give it a shot but my best bet does sound like i should just buy one.I'm already working on the HF mani as far as cleaning it up, sanding... and a intercooler with some bent fins and inlets that need to be relocated.Guess that will hold me over between classes for a while
THanx for the info fellas;)
