Home made boost controller ?

Home made boost controller ?
o.k. I've seen all these " HOME MADE " and " CHEAP " boost controllers online. When I look at them it seem like all they did was goto Home Depot and goto the brass fittings section and put some piece's together with a butterfly valve. Does anyone know how to make these. Just woundering.
