Home Depot couplers

What are they actually called at the store or where are they located at? I tried searching on their site but it just comes up like fittings lol. Also would they have 3in ones?

Re: Home Depot couplers

They'r a waste of time unless ur running 3psi...lol If you run t-boltclamps on them they might work up to 6psi. Either way they suck and you might as well get silicone couplers. Do you have an aeroquip dealer near you or any type of industrial fittings store. Thats where I buy mine by the foot for cheap ass prices

I don't think they're that bad. Just clamp the ---- out of it and make sure it's not sitting half an inch away from your manifold.

Re: Home Depot couplers

they work fine. they are in the plumbing section. use them for bends clamp them good and tight and you wont ever have a problem. i ran mine of 15 psi for ever and never blew on off they work great. there like 3 dollars a peice but there in the plumbin section at lowes and home depot. if they dont work on ur set up bring em back and get something else but its better than buyin a 200 dollar ic pipe kit this is hmt turbo guys make that ---- work

Who are you? And why are you telling people to waste their money?

I would assume that with 2.5" pipes you have an area of 4.9" X 10psi = ~49lbs pulling on the coupler (this is what I run). With 3" pipes you have an area of 7" X 10psi = ~70lbs pulling on the coupler (good luck). 2" pipe is 3.14 area which makes it even more more forgiving and I bet it could handle 15-16psi on the home depot couplers :8

Re: Home Depot couplers

2.5 piping, hitting 10-13psi no problems at all. I even had one connected directly to the turbo for about 2 months. Then it gave away. A word of advice, if you have 2.5in piping you'll need a 2in coupler. They don't measure for ID on the HD couplers.

Re: Home Depot couplers

i used Hd couplers on my low boost d set up. i needed someting small enough to fit on the outlet of my saab 42/48 turbo that will connect to my 2.5 piping and HD had the perfect coupler. i also use one 90 degree coupler. just tighten the hell out of them you will be fine

Re: Home Depot couplers

bump for homedepot couplers i used ace hardeware plumbing couplers held 14psi strait got them to hold 20 with hairspray

Re: Home Depot couplers

never saw them at the homedepot near me had to go to lowes, they work ok as long as there is no bend to them, if the two ic tubes dont meet straight on they will pop off at low boost

Re: Home Depot couplers

10psi no problem ;)s

Re: Home Depot couplers

plumbers refer to them by their " fernco" brand name.
they should work fine.
but if you really want some extra secuity, try some no-hub couplings made for cast iron pipe.
theyre reinforced with a steel sleeve, and have a little lip in the inside.

Re: Home Depot couplers

I'm trying different ways to hold in 23psi boost... They hold great for a couple days then the pipes literally blow apart. Going to try wrapping the HD specials with ductape onto the pipe over the hose clamps... grr.

Re: Home Depot couplers

i replaced one of my 4 ply silicone couplers with a HD special when i was in a pinch once and have still not seen any problems with it. been like 6 months was boosting 17psi

Re: Home Depot couplers

They work good one low boost. stronger clamps help.

1slow91 07-10-2008 12:57 AM

Re: Home Depot couplers

also adding rubber cement /hairspray or a coat of paint right before putting them together :8

reactone 07-10-2008 09:32 AM

Re: Home Depot couplers

Or you could weld a bead around the ends of the pipes for the HMT bead roll effect.

ichbinsobose 07-10-2008 09:55 AM

Re: Home Depot couplers

i dont have a welder so i covered the pipes with "automotive goo" and they have not popped off yet... :6

Re: Home Depot couplers

As stated they are in the plumbing section .. I tried them once and blew a hole in one as soon as I hit boost.

I just go to napa and get a foot of 2.5" ID radiator hose. It's like 13$ a foot but You can get 3 couplers out of it.
