Holset HY35W Turbo Turbocharger Questions
I'm about to be the owner of a 2nd Holset turbo, and I need to find out the price of some parts if possible. I need a compressor housing and possibly a compressor wheel. Also the turbo is being installed on a 88 VW Jetta GTX. I've haven't seen any other dub owners yet, but then again I've only been lurking in the background on here just soaking up information. What I would also like to know if possible are rough output numbers based on my setup.
The car: Holset Hy35w 2.0L 16v bottom end(forged crank, cross drilled and shot peened factory forged rods, factory 9:0:1 pistons with oil squirters, ARP fasteners, external Starion oil cooler, and a crank scraper) Ported and polished 2.0L ABA head with 1mm SS oversized valves(and under cut .5mm) G60 FI cam and adj. timing gear Metal Head Gasket Factory MKV 28x15x2" intercooler with 2.5" aluminum charge pipes 470 cc injectors, Aeromotive regulator and fuel pump Megasquirt and EDIS fuel injection 4 puck Carbon Kevlar clutch Cable Shift 02A transmission conversion I'm planing on running the car to 7200RPM with about 18psi and premium gas and or race gas are not a problem(94oct or Aviation 94 octane blend). Just as an idea, I have a similar engine on MS with throttlebodies and 276deg cams, and she's 182hp at the crank. Any ideas on my setup, or suggestions? My first Holset is a reman HX55 with 100hrs on it(I installed it on the vehicle and removed it when it was wrecked). Would be nice to possibly combine the HY35W and the HX55 ;D |

Re: Holset HY35W Turbo Turbocharger Questions
Turbos aren't tinker toys. You can't just mix and match parts or install a new wheel. Even if they fit your turbo will still fail with some janky ass homebrewed work done to it. Spend the few hundred bucks and have it factory overhauled or send it to a reputable shop which there is only a few in the U.S. that'll actually do decent work.
