Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

weld els from www.mcmaster.com

and flanges from typert (in our classifieds)

turbos and stuff like that... thats a secret.. ;)

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

Guys if I ever manage to figure out dreamweaver and get my website up I will have all the manifold building parts you need for sale. I can pretty much kill McMaster's pricing and I have good prices on all the flanges also. For example I can get a 90degree 316L weld el for $6.15. Compare that to McMaster. If anyone knows anything about dreamweaver and would like to lend a hand I would appreciate it.

think we are paying $4.20 for our 1.5in 304 stainless weld els..

Todd 03-04-2003 09:46 AM

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

Jeff that sounds like the price of the steel els.. Unless your getting some different prices than mcmasters internet catalog. $5.89 for 304 and $7.34 for 316. Heck if you have a place I can get them for $4.20 tell me where.

Those look like schedule 40 not schedule 10. I'm not trying to be difficult... ; ::)

Can you host that pic so it shows. Not sure why it doesn't work for me.

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

you sure man.. ;D

Well so what are the thickness of them so I can compare to mine.. I was under the impresson that 10 was pretty thin wall. The ones I have are just a hair over 1/8" thick.

HMT-Admin 03-04-2003 11:42 AM

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

schedual 10 is pretty thick, we were worried they would be thin too.. but, they are think, guessing 1/8th in thick..

Jeff

Todd 03-04-2003 11:58 AM

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

Jeff I found some specs. Schedule 10 has a wall thickness of .109" and schedule 40 is .145"

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

yeah as you can imagine I am on his bad side also. I'd like to compare the 10 to 40. Are any of you guys located near Mechanicsburg Pa 17055. I wouldn't mind getting together some time.

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

well, if todd's numebr are right, we're only talking about a .036" of a difference; which works out to be just BARELY over 1/32nd of an inch. (1.152/32 to be EXACT)

Todd 03-04-2003 02:07 PM

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

I know the size is close and the cost is alot less for the schedule 10. I would like to have them in my hand to actually compare how they look. I might start running the lighter ones.

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

Log style, you should need two 90 degree el's and two Tee's.

HMT-Admin 03-04-2003 04:52 PM

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

not sure... ask blacksi (beau) he would know..

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

Do any of you guys know if they sell these ells from Grainger? I have a business account with them, and it would be much easier to buy from them than from McMaster.

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

Do a search for stainless butt weld then go to the catalog page. all the fittings are in the same section.

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

Just curious, why stainless, why not carbon steel. Is it better able to hold the heat? The regular steel is cheaper, thats why I asked.

BLACKSI 03-06-2003 10:01 AM

Re:hmt peeps, where you get your hm supplies?

ss is the best to use it handles heat better and allows you to use thinner pipies.
you guys are realy worried about nothing with the 10 guage lots of manifolds are made form alot thinner stuff
look at jeffs raqce manifold its thinner than schedule 10
https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_.../60-1_race_ZC/
in fact 10 is probly a bit to thick but is much cheaper than the real thin ss that is suposed to be used. :-\

Man, Geoff is an ass. Your smoking some serious crack if you think $1200 is worth it because he has a profesional welder put together $150 worth of parts. You have been listening to his crap for too long.

What business secret is he trying to protect?

Well, maybe there isn't any secret to why his manifold is better than others. However, I spoke to him several times and he's a pretty cool guy. Let him do his thing and you do yours. Maybe one day that i practice on my manifold enough, i'll make a better manifold than him :P
