hf manifold question
 

I got a HF manifold I already port matched it an in the process of making a adapter plate. my turbo needs a external wastegate, can I weld a flange to it for the wastegate or can I put it on the downpipe? should I just get a cusyom manifold, I'am a student with little money to work with, please help

Going to have to let someone else answer the downpipe question, but I can talk to you about cast iron. Would it be possible to swap out and buy a diff turbo with internal wastegate? Most OEM turbos are internally wastegated, and it is doable.

I don't think you can afford to get the cast iron "properly" welded. Yeah you see Beau weld mild steel to it.. but the proper way would be a process of up-heating and down-heating the piece, then using Nickel rods ARC welding. Simple "weld this piece together" cast iron work will run you $50 (what I used to charge), it goes way up for a more custom fabricated piece. I think it would be more economical to get a custom manifold then have to pay for the machining of a hole in the manifold, then weld a flange to it. That is something that I probably wouldn't even attempt myself, after it's all done, fabbing a custom tubular manifold (or log) would be easier, and a bit more reliable (less chance of the stress fractures from the differences in materials and heat).

thanks for the info guys I might see about getting a differnt turbo, I have my turbo on e-bay right now to see if it would sell it's a kkk 3ldz out of a porsche it has no shaft play and has zero mile after being rebuilt. if any one intrested let me know asking $180 shipped

I think you'll always be better off going with the common product, like what if that porshe turbo took a ---- and left you with an insane rebuild/replacement price? Go T3 or maybe a T25 (please don't flame me Jeff :o)

what do you guys think of a 14b? is a t3 or t25 better?

Depends on your goals: hp, how much boost, engine size (d16, right), spool time, blah blah.

T3s are nice and universal, DSM turbos are cheap and easily found. Many options u need to weigh in.
