Help with removing exhaust housing
 

Ok well I believe I am able to clock or turn the exhaust side of this turbo or I'm am just being a complete noob any help would be great. I have WD-40'd it heated it up and sprayed with some other penitration crap. I can't seem to get it to budge. I have all the bolts loose and it is stuck, do i just need to keep hacking at it day by day?? Also if anyone and id this turbo all i know is its a T3 how can i measure a/r and trim...I tried looking it up on google but I was having trouble...anyways I sucks so help me please here are some pics to help. I circled where the bolts hit the center section this is why I assume it must rotate, thanks for any help...Matt

try to clean the rust around the nuts they might be preventing the nut from tuning . or put it in a vise and use a breaker bar

I have all the nuts loose, they only come out so far before they hit parts of the center section, I can get like 2 or 3 completely out.

I usually use those bolts that hit the center section to remove the turbine housing. Keep wrenching on the bolts that are hitting the center section till it backs the housing off. Use your head though and don't strip the bolts or anything

Yeah be careful not to nap them in the housing. That can be quite a headache. Make sure the center section where it meets the housing is WD-40'd up real good. Mine came loose with a few taps from a hammer.

My advice because I had the same problem. Put it in a vice and while someone works the torch around the bolt (not on the bolt) slowly work it back and forth. Don't always try to unscrew it. It will bind.

Put the center section in a vise and hit the exhaust housing outwards with a large hammer in a circle. I used a 4lb sledge to get mine off. Don't try to get it to turn, you just want to pop it off at this point. Once it's off you can wire wheel around and clean some of the crap out of if you have access to a sandblaster, use that to clean up the exhaust housing once you have it off.

i just rotated my exhaust housing yesterday on my wrx turbo. it was held on with a v-band clamp or whatever they are called; but after i got that off, i held the turbo by the compressor with the exhaust facing the workbench, and had my dad take a rod of brass(softer than the cast housing so's not to damage it) and a hammer ,and just hit it till it came of. it took A LOT of hitting to come off. i didn't use and solvents or penetrators tho before or after in fear of damaging affects to the seals, but i did wipe off as much loose rust as i could of the center secion part and used some motor oil to ease them back together. worked very well. im not sure if yours is slid together like mine was but it might help you.

But I'd put back on the compressor housing and slightly tap the backside of the compressor housing while loosing these bolts so it will break free. If you hit the back of the compressor backing plate it will bend very easy, so becarful.

Hey guys thanks a lot i am back at school for the week so i won't be able to do anything till next weekend. I think with everything that was posted i should be able to get it off, thanks...Matt
