Help, Pinging noise in motor.
I have a built d16z6, fully built to the max basically. It only has about 4,000-4,500 miles on it. Im only running 5 psi on the greddy kit. "dont get the thread of topic asking why such little boost, i was waiting until i got hondata to run 15psi". Basically yesterday on my way home from school the car died half way home, i started it back up and it would die everytime i put it in nuetral or switched gears to slow. I got it home a few moments later and popped the hood. The radiator fluid was boiling outta the container. I cooled off the engine bay with a hose and filled the radiator resivoir with water. After playing with some fuses i finally got the car to start up, however it idles fine but is sounds like there is a marble bouncing around. I had the car towed to a shop and we looked at the head, everything looked fine. They tried to suggest a bent valve but that wouldnt make sense because a bent valve usually means it wont even start and there would be hella smoke. It sounds like pinging noises when it idles. Below is a copy of my modlist for information that could help me out.
D16z6 Sport sleeves JE 9.1 Pistons Eagel Rods Comp turbo cam shaft Crower Valves Springs Retainers ARP headstuds Ported & Polished 3 Angle valve Job MSD BTM MSD BLASTER COIL JG CAM GEAR Pullys Focuz intake manifold Alum flywheel ACT clutch Underdrive pulley 255 fuel pump- BBK Vafc AVC-R Boost Controller Aem FPR Vortech Fmu Greddy Fuel Box Greddy 15G turbo kit Greddy FMIC Greddy blow off 2.5" downpipe Greddy Turbo Timer Greddy oil catch can Greddy a/f Guage Greddy Boost Guage Greddy catback exhaust high flow cat Mandercoil plug wires Greddy spark plugs Optima red top battery (located in back) If your not going to post useful information then dont bother reading this thread, if you have questions as to why i have a greddy kit and why such little boost, save them for another time. Bottom line is i was waiting till i got hondata next weekend to run high boost and the greddy kit was on the car before the motor was built and i havnt had the extra cash to go custom w/it. |
Re:Help, Pinging noise in motor.
yeah, it doesn't seem like you could have a bent valve unless you broke a rod or your timing belt.
maybe the engine is not getting enough fuel. That would account for the engine dying when idle, the higher engine temps, and possibly the pinging too. i'm sure your engine is tough, being built and all but I would be sure you didn't break anything before you start it up again... then again what do I know ;) |
Re:Help, Pinging noise in motor.
It sounds like you're not getting enough fuel. Are you still on the stock injectors?

Re:Help, Pinging noise in motor.
Just as a side note, you probably shouldn't hose down the engine bay when your over heating. It's like an ice cube in a frying pan. CCRRAACCKKKK! ;)

Re: Help, Pinging noise in motor.
my d15b7 just started having pinging noise also, motor is all stock... i checked the head, everythign looks good, took a compression check, good across the board... took the pan off, everythign in the bottom end looked fine!
i have the tunertoyz 450cc injectors.. i heard that they were having problems with them failing? if on of my injecors failed and i wasnt getting fuel.. would it make this noise? thanks nick |
Re: Help, Pinging noise in motor.
check your cam timing. mine acted just like that when the timing belt skipped a tooth

Re: Help, Pinging noise in motor.
not enough fuel at idle wouldn't cause that pinging noise...the car would just die.

Re: Help, Pinging noise in motor.
What engine managment are you running now? Sounds like you are running lean that tends to make you car over heat due to higher egt's. Oh and it will not idle well.
