Help a newb choose the right stuff for downpipe /exhaust / charge pipes
Ok, first off I am working with an old A20 engine, in an 86 Accord.
The motor is built, and I am using a T3/T04E .60/.63 57 Trim turbo. I have the plain old 4 bolt discharge, so I assume that something like this is the right flange: SS http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GT-T3...QQcmdZViewItem Mild http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3-Hy...QQcmdZViewItem The size of the opening (not sure of the correct name) on the turbo is actually smaller than 2.5, but I figure it will be easiest if I am building a 3" dowpipe to just start with a 3" flange. If it looks like that won't work it's no big deal for me to use 2.5" and step it up to 3" after the tight spots. I am definitely unsure of what material I should buy to build a downpipe. I am going to have my neighbor help me tack this all together, and then take it to some friends who own a welding shop (but wont help with fab work), and have them weld it all for me. :) Any pointers for where to buy bends for downpipes and exhausts? I am planning a 3" stainless system from the turbo back, but I just don't know the differences between all the different types of metals. Also, is there any problem ordering the generic 2.5" ebay charge pipe kits? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-5-B...QQcmdZViewItem they have the nice clamps already, just gotta weld my bov flange on that sucker. :) Any pointers would be helpful.... thanks |

Well yes to everything, and if you can afford stainless you might as well go for it.
www.acestainless.com has decent priced bends for downpipe/exhaust. Cheap ebay charge piping kits seem to do the job well. Wish they were available when I did my setup. A20 ftw! |
