Help me trouble shoot idle problem on turbo D
Guys i just finished installing my turbo and have had it running since friday night. she seems to run really well on the basemap. everything except my idle problem. it seems if i start up the car and drive off without it warming up, and i come to a stop it'll hold the rpms at 2k. after it warms up it seems to bounce between 1100 and 1500. sometimes a smaller gap but around there. maybe about 20-30% of the time i come to a stop it will find an idle at 800 at idle normal. but the rest of the time it seems to bounce between 1100-1300 or 1200-1500 around that area.
i didn't have enough for a vacuum manifold yet( i know i know 30 bucks right. im broke ok lol) so my bov is running directly off my cruise control line(i dont' hav cc). my boost gauge is T'd into my fpr line and my internal wastegate is T'd into my evap solenoid line. i checked all my vac lines everything is on fine. a friend suggested disconnecting the evap line to the im and in my case connecting the wastegate directly to the manifold. he said pulling off the evap smoothed out his idle alot. i tried it at lunch with no effect. car acts the same. my setup: y7/y8 mini-me td04l-13g homemade ramhorn 2.5" charge pipes jrc 5" fmic 1g dsm bov 2.5" open dp p28 running uberdata basemap do you guys have any ideas? thanks! -Luke |
Re: Help me trouble shoot idle problem on turbo D
sounds like a vaccuum leak somewhere, or maybe your injectors arent sealing all the way if you are using something other than stock

Re: Help me trouble shoot idle problem on turbo D
i've triple checked all vac lines. im using barely dremeled stock lower seals. i dont think its that but i can do the soapy water test on the seals sometime.
hmm well i 'advanced' my tps sensor all the way and it seems to be doing much better. idle's most of the time. still sometimes the rpm's move around but not as rapidly and not as high. moves slowly from say 900 to 1100 or a lil more. also sometimes it decides to idle way low at 500. other times idles perfect. but overall i'd say its much better then it was before. |
Re: Help me trouble shoot idle problem on turbo D
you got the bin file for the basemap handy?
post it. also, you could have your little idle screw on the throttle body cranked way in or out, that will make idle all funky |
Re: Help me trouble shoot idle problem on turbo D
when i did my y8 mini-me i had to play with both the tps and the idle screw. i haven't changed the idle screw but the only affect that really has is slowly raising or lowering the idle. i never saw it make it fluctuate. unfortunately i don't have the bin handy. i can ask the tuner's who made it if they kept it.(it was actually made for a friend a few months ago). however at lunch im putting together that nokia datalogging cable so i'll be able to verify my tps is properly oriented. i got tired of using the multimeter.

Re: Help me trouble shoot idle problem on turbo D
one thing thatll mess with it is an air bubble in your coolant. if the air bubble finds its way into your iacv itll see improper tempatures, and cause the motor to surge.
just something to check. sean |
Re: Help me trouble shoot idle problem on turbo D
i didn't modify the coolan lines at all(haven't hooked up the water ports on the turbo)
i think i got some datalogging with uber working. with tps fully 'advanced' it read 16 at closed and 93 at WOT with tps fully 'retarded' it read 5 at closed and 81 at WOT i think its supposed to be at 0 or 1 at closed. i tried the idle screw but that didn't affect it. |
