Help me out identifying my turbo <nubcake>
2 Attachment(s)
Alright, so I got this turbo for free, it is Garrett and the lable says TB03, so I am guessing it is a type of a T3. It has an internal wastegate and a .42 compressor housing. (I think it is from a volvo)
The turbo has both horizontal and vertical shaft play and bent fins on the compressor side. Here are my question: What exactly is this? How many PSI is the wastegate on???? Should I keep it or trash it? The shop here can balance and fix the shaft (lol shaft) for $38, and I could put the new seal in myself. What do you guys think? Attachment 31439 Attachment 31440 |

Probably a .42/.48
Any in/out play? |

junk ;)

Yes there is in/out play. So I got it for free for a reason?

Looks like a Garrett T3 .42/.48
from a Volvo. Do you know which engine it was from? The wastegate could be from 5.8~10 psi. |
Re: Help me out identifying my turbo <nubcake>
Agreed that all of the vertical+axial play makes it junk. Are the fins hitting the compressor housing? Even if they don't, the turbo isn't worth installing.

Re: Help me out identifying my turbo <nubcake>
bent fins + shaft play in more than one direction = junk
you could try selling some parts on egay, i.e. housings, any fittings, actuator, etc. |
Re: Help me out identifying my turbo <nubcake>
No, the fins aren't hitting anything, but there is slight shaft play in all directions. I am guessing a rebuild won't cure this?

Re: Help me out identifying my turbo <nubcake>
Yes, a rebuild would fix that.
