Help me my turbo smokes

Help,

My turbo smokes, it has a russian rebuild, Perfect oil return, Stealthmode niglet oil restrictor at 25%, and a fine mix of Gearlube & Nosmoke..

yet it continues to blow smoke. I am tired of smokey turbos, how come they cannot be perfect from the junkyard, Why is it every one I get blows smoke, leaks oil or sounds like a ------- freight train.

PS,
I love smoke

Hes the man whomith created this magnificent place.

Have you tried to let less flow from the restrictor? Or always kept it at 25%? I would try that real quick before you start taking the turbo off to inspect it.

Re: Help me my turbo smokes

Yea!! and i really appritiates him on creating such an informative forum, this is a great help.

i think oil restrictor should be opend completly just to check if its not blocking the oil completly or the exact quantity which is needed.
When u install the turbo, does it acutally smokes as soon as u start the car/or when the car gets upto NOT? or when u give a couple of boost runs??? i still doubt the oil pressure thingy

Re: Help me my turbo smokes

You silly guy! You have to INVERT the whistle tips on those junkyard turbos. This creates a reverse negative oil flow directly to stabilize the inhertia created by the thrust bearing spacer plate which in turn gaurantees that your turbo won't smoke. It has to have Garrett internals too ;).

Salami makes me giggle.

Must be on a B-Series, because honestly I rarely hear of D's causing smoke from oil pressure. I was fine without a regulator. :-\ Who knows?

P.S. Covering cars in rushhour traffic does NOT = love. You, Jeff, are a mad man.

It happens all the time on d series what are you talking about?

Re: Help me my turbo smokes

Easy solution.

Disconnect the oil feed line.

No oil line to turbo = no oil = no smoke :6

is this a sarcastic post to make fun of the newbs? i have the same exact prob on my ls-t, i added the stealthmode restrictor and now it doesnt smoke but anyone driving behind me passes out due to oil smell. plus when i slam on the brakes hard or go down long hills i get a puff of blue smoke >:(

Okay, because until the seals blew it never smoked annnnnnnd my buddies Y7 never smoked. I have YET to see it on a D-series smoke because of too much oil psi.

Happens all the time. Way too much oil going to the turbo usually. Im not a b-series guy, but I dont see the b-series not sending around the same amount of oil to the turbo.

Re: Help me my turbo smokes

same thing happened on my 4 door, turbo d15b7, smoked like a mofo till i put a restrictor on, then no more smoke ever!

Re: Help me my turbo smokes

I just use it as a smoke screen with my smoking 14b. It stops people from riding on your ass when you give it some gas and they get a nice blue cloud and the smell of burning oil. 8) Oh and that awesome mack truck/chainsaw sound with a bad turbo and open downpipe.

Knowing Abaz, I would say yes ;D Haven't you guys noticed the increasing number of "help it smokes" threads? And besides, everyone knows Russians can't rebuild ----...hell, they can't even rebuild their country, right yuri? :D

As for you ish, I would say your rings are goin' ;)

Guess I'm lucky? I don't doubt you've had your smoking issues, but I haven't (thank God).

The oil restrictor goes on the oil feed, not the return.
Did Steve send you the Russian instructions?

Re: Help me my turbo smokes

I am sure that even the most retarded russian knows that just putting some standard size ebay bearings and rings in a turbo that has wear on it is unlikely to solve your smoking issues. (not balancing it is also a great way to further reduce your chances of success)

There's many different sizes of piston rings. some wider for worn out ringlands, some larger for worn out center sections. machining the shaft and center housing is of course involved. quite frankly, 80% of turbos I rebuild need oversize internals to restore their oil tightness. 100$ need a rebalancing so it lasts longer than a xsp....

It was a very long night, and a turbo I installed smoked.. I think Its under control now, the replacement taiwan t3/t4 seems to be holding up.

Be careful for boost creep, smoking turbos develop higher pressure due to air munchies.

All my engines always have some random tick, ping, or ------ rattle.

They never smoke... but are always noisey.

What are the levels of Iron? Lead? Copper? Tin? Aluminum? Nickel? Silver? Silicon? What's the oil viscosity?
