Help Me Compare A .48/.60 T3 VS. Apexi/IHI AX53B60-P18

Hey guys,

I was pretty set on buying a .48/.60 T3, and after looking at some compressor maps it seemed like a very good turbo for my needs.
However today I managed to come across some one selling the Apexi/IHI AX53B60-P18. Same turbo used in the Apexi turbo kit for a civic with a d16z6. There is virtually no information on this turbo, but I have managed to find some specs. I do not know how accurate they are, but they seem to be right. Here is what I have found:

Power (PS^2): 340
Compressor Trim: 57
Compressor Inducer(mm): 46
Compressor Major(mm): 60
Turbine Trim: 82
Turbine Major(mm): 53
Turbine Exducer(mm): 48
Exhaust Housing A/R: .71

My question is, how does this compare to a .48/.60 T3? Am I looking at a turbo that is similair in size? How does this turbo compare in the spooling department, as well as the top end air flow capability? What is the potential of this turbo vs the T3 .48/.60?

Thanks :)

if you can find us a compressor map we might be able to say... other than that it sounds very close to a T3 60/48, only way to know for sure is a compressor map or its all just guesswork

Well the thing is the T3 maps are readily available, but the IHI ones are not. I have tried searching for the Apexi/IHI compressor map with no luck. Those specs on their own where a pain to find. So they are really my only comparison, but I thought they would allow for at least a basic comparison. I figured if the specs were similair then the output must be as well, and any differences might be explained to me and their effect, either positive or negative. Maybe it's not as simple as I thought?

Thats the kind of info I was hoping for.
Would it be restricted because of a smaller compressor wheel trim then the 48/60, even though the exhaust side seems rather huge?

After a lot of extensive research I think the turbo that closest matches the Apexi turbo is the GT2530. The trim for the compressor wheel is a little bigger on the GT, but its turbine is smaller then the Apexi. The major and minor wheel sizes were practically the same. So maybe it would be easier to compare the GT2530 to a 48/60 T3?

Is it a ball bearing center section? What kind of flange is it? A T3 or something weird?

Yes it is a ball-bearing center section, but as for the flange I do not know. I have read somewhere that if the turbo craps out, the super 60 is pretty much a direct bolt on, which would mean a t3 flange, but then I have heard t25 as well. Then again its an IHI, and the IHI I have at home is something totally weird lol.
