Help identify Thunderbird turbo

I pulled a turbo out of a ford thunderbird turbo coupe and i'm going to try to put it into my gsr Does anyone know if i should just scrap the turbo and find another one or put it on. I'm gonna rebuild it but if it won't help me then i probably won't use it

could be a .48 .60 or if your lucky a .60 .63 both of which are T3's.
what year was the coupe? auto or manual?

Re: Help identify Thunderbird turbo

what about for a b16

Re: Help identify Thunderbird turbo

for a b16 you need it to be the .63 turbine one. .48 turbine is good for D series and B18A,B

What year is it?
if it is 87 or 88, it is an IHI
Is it manual or automatic?
The manual trans cars before 87 had the .63/.60s the autos had .48s

Too small for your engine if it's an IHI turbo.

Either of the T3s will work, hope it's out of a manual though.

i would have to disagree, the ihi is a t3, they're all t3's, and the 48/52 that comes off the auto are small but i ran one on my cousins crx on 10psi and a fmu with 3 inch d.p. and just 0*ignition timing and we pulled pretty hard on a modded ls1 6 speed camaro, the guy said he ran a 12.6 and we prolly put a car length on him from a 40 roll, if your going for 300+ whp this isnt the turbo for you, but if you have a 88 crx hf and a 280 whp b16, thats a pretty quick car, i would say 14psi on a gsr would be a good starter/begineer turbo

The A/R is .60 on the cold side but i have no idea on the hot side. So is this turbo usable on my integra gsr

well if it says .60 on the charge side. the its the garrett. and both garrets will work fine @10 psi on a gsr :y

lol, that was a quick change to your IHI statement.

It's usable yes. To find out the exhaust A/R look in the inlet to the exhaust housing.

T3 flange != T3 turbo

BLAAST 12-05-2006 11:24 AM

Re: Help identify Thunderbird turbo

not at all.

The IHI 51t21 from the thunderbird has a t3 flange. it's far from a T3... It shares the same turbine wheel as the probe/323 ihi RHB5

The skyline gtr had a T25 with a t3 flange.

garrett, Borgwarner, holset, schwitzer are all producing many T3 flanged turbos and none of them are T3's. THey actually are T4 and even larger.
