HELP HELP HELP!!!

OK SO everything is hookup now the turbo the bov all the piping except the downpipe but i dont think that should make a difference. IM NOT MAKING ANY BOOST!!. im using a t3 wihtn a 60 inlet and a 48 exhaust. i can see the tubo start spining at abut 2000rpms but if i hold the revs steady it will stop. i even floored it and the turbo does spin but the guage boost gauge wont go past the vaccum part of the guage. the most i got it to was 0 even no vaccum but no boost either(and that didnt stay steady. i dont know what im doing wrong. help. :'( what should i be looking for to trouble shoot??

what are you using as a wastegate? If it's an internal, is it connected (the arm) tightly or is there a lot of slack and it's not pulling the flapper valve shut?

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

you really cant boost when reving in idle it needs load. Take it for a spin on the road. If u did this already and still not boosting then you might have restriction on your compressor inlet; are you using any kind of fitler, cuz if u use a rag or something in front of it it wont boost. good luck

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

its the internal and i have it hooked up to an hks boost controller. maybe it doenst work. ill try a line strait from the turbo to the wastegate and see what happens be back in 5

well, if the boost controller wasn't working then if anything, you'd get unlimited boost. There really is no way for a boost controller to lower the boost unless it somehow miraculously starts feeding more boost into the wastegate actuator!! haha, anyway, as for Bongnak's comment, yeah, take it for a test drive cuz you won't be able to make boost in neutral, your car's gotta be moving in first gear. You'll be able to see it spin a bit in neutral, but you won't really generate enough boost to move your boost gauge or generate power.

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

well that didnt work. i did drive the car around the block and stil nothing. and i dont know but i dont think my safc is not setup right. when i step off the gas it backfires and when i give it gas it hesitates. this sucks stillno boost :'(

leak some where in the charge pipes??? check it all w/ soap and water and look for bubbles?

RENR 03-09-2003 08:05 PM

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

actually what i did i disconnected the charge pipe starting at the inlet and blocked the tube. it gets all sucked in by the vaccum created at the manifold. oh well its dark now and hard to see so i give up. ill try again tomoro. :'(

are you sure it wont boost not even a little bit in neutral. just seems kinda odd.??

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

Check the retaining nuts on the turbo that hold on the compressor/turbine wheels. If its loose, the shaft could be spinning freely and not letting it build boost.

illl chekc it out tomorow after work . im just gona pull the turbo out again

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

how about your blow off valve is it leaking what is it? oh and since its an internal is the acutator arm adjustable? cuz if it is then maybe it is screwed too far out and its releasing the gases without it closing it up first to allow boost. kinda get that i just woke up.

hhmm good thought ill chekc it out after work. i did extend it a bit thinking i didnt want to boost a lot i wanted to start low becuse i dont know what psi that wastegate it set too.maybe i set it too low.thanks ill check it out.

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

well i took apart the turbo and here are several findings. turns out the wastegate was hitting the block. keep in mind im using a t3 and an hf manifold. ok so the wastgate is hitting the block and i was able to trque down the manifold BUT it wasnt against the block properly.so when i took it apart again i noticed a smokey buildup between the manifold ports, the exhuast was escaping , very minimal because i cuould see no leak but i guess it did have an affect. second since the wastegate was against the block it kinda got twisted and wasnt perpendicular to the turbo it was at a slant and so it wasnt allowing the wastegate to work right. and finaly my ghetto rigged oil drain tube was starting to melt. so im kinda glad it didnt work because i cant imaginge what wouldve happend it i started dripping oil in the freeway. ok so this weekend im off to finda metal drain tube and put everything back together right this time.

i was curiuos to know also in what gear and at about what rpm does everyone start to build boost? this is my first time boosting so please dont flame me for being a dumb ass

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

1st gear I dont know cause as soon as I get on the gas hard the tires break loose. 2nd gear ~3000 then around 4000 the tires start breakin loose again. 3rd-5th anywhere from ~2800-3300 rpm.

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

yyyiiipppeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! i got my car to work today!!!!!!!!!! i put everything back right this time and i managed to build boost. im only boosted 4lbs. thats without the boost controller. ill hook that up tomorow and see if i can up that up to 7lbs. it does feel a bit faster but not that much. but then it is raining so i havent realy had a chance to push the car past 60. i cant beleive i actually turboed a freaking car! yippeee!!!!!

and boost on my car doesnt start until around 4000rpms, and stay steady all the way to 6500, is that normal to boost so late in the rpm range? im using a t3 with 60inlent / 48 exhaust and a d16a6? ;D

ZexRex 03-16-2003 09:34 AM

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

damn dosent feel any faster? theyre might be something else wrong with the car, is your engine management working right?. A dseries with 7 lbs is fast and 12 lbs is pretty scary, hard to keep from breaking loose and sliding sideways. So you should feel 4 lbs on the butt-dyno.

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

What kind of exhaust are you running? Restrictive exhaust will make your turbo lag(boost at higher RPM) also what motor are you running? that`s a large turbo for anything under about 2.2L and will have some lag.

RENR 03-16-2003 11:15 AM

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

it does feel a bit faster but nothing big. im gona try to crank up the boost today and give you guys an update. maybe it is my exhaust, its stock including the cat, i was going to get it redon but i didnt have enough cash. maybe next payday ill get it redone like 2.5 inch all the way. time to go play with my car, heee hee.

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

Congrats...another happy booster.
I hope I'm next have to finish welding my custom manifold and my 2.5" custom exhaust

Re:HELP HELP HELP!!!

after hooking up the boost controller i set it for 6lbs of boost and that i can definately feel. i just wasted half a tank of gas flooriing it all over the place(safley of course) and i love the way it feels. that bov sound is lovely. thanks every one for hte help and tips. ;D
