Ok, i don't know if it was the heat or my A/C or whatever but this is my episode.
The past couple days I've notice everytime i started my car, the oil light would stay on for like 4-5 seconds.. this kinda scared me because that's about 5psi oil.. very low.. but the car didn't sound any different.. still ran hard.
Today, i was on the highway going 80-90km/hr (55mph) and was in 3rd flooring it.. then shifted to 4th like usual.. then a pop sound and felt like clutch slipping or i wasn't into 4th properly.. then the engine died... i coasted to the side and waited for tow truck....
I tried to start it despite what i heard about not starting in case it was the timing belt that went... the starter just "spun" no cranking, just "wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee" so i said ---- it..
when i got my car home.. i found one intake valve broken... hell's know if anything else is wrong but probably is.. this should be covered under warranty but i just want to see what would cause this?
observations:
timing belt OK, not snapped
Cam gear is OK, not slipped
Cam is ok, nothing wrong.
I also noticed everytime i'm near redline, the car sounded more louder and more vibrating than before the past couple of months....
what could cause a broken valve?
1. Valve float (at only 6700 rpm?)
2. Valve lash adjustment too tight or loose
3. The cam's vtec profile too strong??
4. Cam retarded 2 degrees too much?
That's the only things i can think off.. but i ran it like this so long... i think it has something to do with my oil pressure.. maybe my car had problems from beginning with oil and starved my engine or something..
I also always since the beginning.. got like "hard" starts.. like cranking the engine was very "sluggish and slow" cranks... and when it turned out, sounded like not enough fuel and was gonna stall.. and also the oil light was on again for 2-4 seconds...
what you guys think
the valve just broke off! it seems like it's still holding and not dropped into the cylinder.. i have no idea how it stays.... retarded...

the retainer is cracked and i can't see the top of the valve.. that enough proof that valve is broken? and the cylinder was at intake stroke and ONE valve was there and the other i can press the spring down lol...
I don't know.. i think if ONE cylinder is out of compresion the whole engine should still run but ----... like if you have blown ONE ring on ONE piston.. car should still run right... so i think more fucked up cuz i can't start the car.

no way pulling head off.. car is still warranty!! hopefully i get new pistons... that = new engine basically... and a new oil pickup and pump.. i bet it was oil starvation plus high rpm lift of my cam
car is d16y8 on 2000 civic
car is d16y8 on 2000 civic
but wait, you said that the engine is still under waranty, so its a new car? then how would it be starved off oil? new engines dont burn oil, unless you had a leak in the pan and never checked it, and if you knew you were starving from oil, then why didnt you put any in? i had a valve broken before and yes the engine should still run on 3 cylinders my engine was a D15 civic CX
