heat wrap
Just got done on the 14b setup on my 93 accord, and the oil return from the turbo is so close to the dp that i put some heat wrap on it. Anyone ever get heat wrap that smokes? unless im just being blind and can't find a oil leak or, the return line is melting. what do you guys think?

Heat wrap will smoke and burn off when you first put it on. Has a real nasty smell to it too. :l Give it a while to burn in and you'll be fine. |

Re: heat wrap
That bitch is ugly. wouldn't touch her even with a stick. (sorry I hope it'S not your GF ;D)
back to your car??? Why not heat wrapping the downpipe instead of the oil return hose??? Yes it's true, heat wrap smells bad when you put it on a manifold or dp but on a oil return, it shouldn't smell anything. if it does, just make sure it's not wet with oil. Have a look in between the CHRA and turbine housing. if it'S oily there, the turbine seal may be pissing a bit of oil on the wrap job and it will smoke forever. |
Re: heat wrap
na, sorry wasn't to clear on where i put the heat wrap but its on the dp not the return. but... yeah it stoped smoking after about a day on there. but damn that ---- scared the ---- out of me i was having problems with oil leaks left and right and blew a turbo from it. but that heat wrap is doing the trick so i don't mind the smell

Re: heat wrap
Header wrap is going to smoke a while until it's broken in.. should quit after 30 minutes of at temp driving or so.
If it bursts into flames, something is wrong. :-) |

Re: heat wrap
I just used 1800F ceramic insulation wrapped with stainless wire. Never smoked, and I got a guy at the dyno to sear the word "AiResearch" into his hand after a few pulls on the dyno. He didn't think the turbo was hot because he didn't think the wrap worked...lol
hey, isn't that Hotrex's mom? |
