Headgasket problem!

Ok well i blew my original headgasket. Got it swapped with a oem d15b7 headgasket (same as before) got the head resurfaced and used arp head studs. It ran good and all.. Later that day my buddy wanted to see what it was like. So i got on it and did a hard 3rd gear pull then i noticed my car was at half on temp gauge so i turned the heater on. Got back to my buddys house and my car was idling funny with white smoke out of the exhaust. So i blew it that quick what the heck... although from what im thinking and learned. Oem d15b7 headgaskets are made of some kind of lead material and have to kind of melt to seal real good. So im thinking it didnt quite seal perfect and when i boosted it hard it made it go bye bye. I ordered a cometic heavy duty cometic. Its .040 thick so its a letter thinner than a oem y8 but its a heavy duty one so :D. What do you guys think on what else could of caused the gasket to blow. I think i was running a little lean. So the heat from running lean could of helped?

Re: Headgasket problem!

running lean can cause overheating, but its usually really lean. the reason people usually shoot for ~11-12 afrs is because the motors are stock. plenty of turbo motors run 13.5 afr's. hell my buddys srt-4 stock other than a different wastegate actuator to keep the boost higher it runs 13 all day, untill you really get on it in 4th or 5th and it drops to around 12.5. Anyways, its more than likely detonation due to lean running. Whats your ignition set at? do you have any ignition control devices?
