having problems above 5-6psi

ok so i'll drive down the road accelerating very lightly and it sits at 5-6psi, then when i give it more gas the boost goes up and it makes this loud bang noise. the car runs fine until it gets above 6psi. i read in another post that it was prolly misfiring so i followed what it said and rebuilt my dizzy with new cap, rotor, and ignition module. i didn't gap the plugs to .03 though. do you think that gapping the plugs would make the much difference? i thought it might not be getting enough fuel so i ordered a walbro 255. im running a zdyne with 450's. also after i turned the car off i checked the spark plugs and they were a golden color. any help would be greatly appreciated. trying to get pics up soon!

well you def. should gap the plugs tighter, and check to make sure the zdyne settings are right

im pretty sure im using the baseline tune for pm6 with forced induction retard. i think all i changed was retarded the timing a little more, and enriched the fuel table alot. i'll gap the plugs tomorrow and see what happens.

well if its too rich it will run like ass too

Re:having problems above 5-6psi

ok i just gapped the plugs and went down the road and it did the same thing but just not as bad. but when i got back, i looked at the turbo and it was glowing red. it scared me. could running to rich cause it to do that?? why would it do that

Re:having problems above 5-6psi

Timing too retarded will raise your exhaust temps high, might wanna check out your timing. hope this helps

for sure your turbo will glow red when u r running too rich. possible your spark is too weak, i just assume u have stock ignition. u need s stronger spark if u have more air and more fuel going into your engine.

Re:having problems above 5-6psi

I think i got an e-mail from you, but anyway I now get some sort of idea what kinda set up u have. set the timing back to stock or whatever the zydine recomends.and since the zydine is set up for boost u shouldn't have to richen the mixture any so get it back to what ever is recommended there too. if you aren't using colder plugs get those too. You need the larger pump too. And lastly dont attempt to tune your car(change timing, fuel, or cam timing, etc.)further than the zydine is set for until you get it on a dyno. This way you really see what the engine is doing. Seat of the pants and hear-say tuning can only go so far and usually lead to blown engines. Every engine is different and so should its tuning be. The program you are running is one that gives you a good safe starting point until further proper tuning is possible.

switched them back, still same thing. what else could it be? should i get new plugs and coil or something? im about to just say ---- it and take the turbo off.

did you change your settings at all?

varexsi 11-20-2003 05:42 PM

Re:having problems above 5-6psi

what do you mean? which settings

turboboy 11-20-2003 06:30 PM

Re:having problems above 5-6psi

fuel

Re:having problems above 5-6psi

i didn't change anything the first time and it still did it. then i moved the fuel boost compensation from 75% to 100%. everything else i left the same.

too rich maybe?

varexsi 11-20-2003 06:51 PM

Re:having problems above 5-6psi

would that cause it to misfire and ----?

Re:having problems above 5-6psi

it could be...i cant remember but i think i ran into this problem a while ago...i have no memory

Re:having problems above 5-6psi

damn dogg!! try to remember. i hooked my shitty A/F ratio gauge up and ran it again with some zex 3 prong spark plugs and when it hit 7psi the a/f went really lean so i think that's the problem. but how come when i pull the plugs out they look brand new? also with the new plugs it didn't make the loud kaboom sound it just kinda wouldn't accelerate. sounded like the timing might be a little off or something. does that help any?

Re:having problems above 5-6psi

you got a 255 pump not being stupid but did you install it yet?

I had a t25 on a dohc zc May Many different tunes and at 10 psi i ran out of fuel by 3,000 rpm Never replaced my pump was to damn lazy. And you keep heating that turbo cherry red like that and i think you will toast your seals. thats just a hunch though. e mail me some of yer screen shots from your zdyne settings....

varexsi 11-20-2003 09:13 PM

Re:having problems above 5-6psi

i just ordered the pump it's in the mail. i didn't originally get one cause on zdyne's website it says you won't need one for some reason. neways pics are sent. if anyone else wants to see them ask and ye shall recieve.

Re:having problems above 5-6psi

ok mebbe try 1 degree retard per pound of boost but my bets are on replace that fuel pump. settings look ok. try the retard and see what happens. Like i said though i bet yer FP is the problem
