Hatch Model Important?

Im getting ready to buy me a hatch and boost it.
Just curious about if all the diff trim models is one more desirable than others ?
Diff ecu's? manifolds?

What Should I look for.

Re:Hatch Model Important?

If I had my choice I would buy a 92-93 si, you get the d16z6 vtec, better trans and 4 wheel disc brakes. But with the sunroof, extra sound deptning material and options it is heavier.

i'd get a 99'-00' ek hatch. great body style, light weight.

lol EK hatch is heaiver then EG...
I would get on that highroller54 mensioned and just strip out the extra sound thing material...sunroof is heavier though...got to live with it..has better brakes and the best D engine you would want in it. and has a P28 ecu ...so Uberdata ready ;D

Re:Hatch Model Important?

1992 CX/VX weighes 2094pounds
1992/1993 Si weighes 2326pounds
1996 CX weighes 2222pounds(car I have)
I'll take the extra 128pounds(difference between lightest EG and EK) for a more modern design.
Iam missing A/C so that probably took car of 30-50pounds.

good specs! I love the ek's also but I think the eg's have a little more "something" to them. ;)

Get the EG Si and add more power vs. saving weight at time of purchase. The brakes/motor/ecu/tranny/etc. are worth the extra pounds. Shave weight with a light wheel/tire set and be happy you're not driving a mercedes tank.

Remember a few of those pounds are from nice things to have like a vtec solenoid, A/C (removable), sunroof (cool) or replace it with a C/F panel. It will save you time/money over having to swap brakes/ecu and all that boring stuff, when you should just be turboing and driving. Working on your car is only fun if you get to drive it when you're done.

Re:Hatch Model Important?

my dx coupe weighs less than the si hatch. but, any eg is dope imo. almost any obd1 ecu can be converted to vtec and also use uberdata.
so to answer your question. i say hatch model is not important. just make sure you get the color you like and a manual tranny. get what you can afford while saving enough money for boost. you can upgrade brakes, vtec, motor, etc. little by little. lower models will be more of a sleeper.
good luck.

I would go for the EG Si, the little bit more weight is worth it to me becuase you get the better trans and the better BRAKES...I mostly say this because I have a CX and the brakes are screaming bloody murder, I need to UPGRADE!

Re:Hatch Model Important?

Re:Hatch Model Important?

the model does affect alot
(note, weights are approximate, there is alot of debate of
the actual weights, but my #'s are very close)

cx/vx:
2094lbs
completely stripped down, no power anything, ---- motors

dx:
2174lbs
tilt steering wheel, door moldings, more sound deadening.
d15b7 engine(102hp)

si:
2326lbs
lots of power stuff and sunroof
d16z6 engine.

EK hatches:
2220-2250lbs
d16y7 engines(106hp)

good luck,
my opinion is to avoid anything with a sunroof,
they're cool but add tons of weight.
