Has anyone arc welded a log manifold
 

Who here has arc welded a log type manifold and what tips can you give. Also has anyone heard of Supermissile Rod electrodes I heard somewhere these are awesome for welding manifolds but I cant find them anywhere.

ARC welding anything is pretty much going to suck ass if you ask me. :-\ That's caveman welding. :-\

It can be done fairly easy. Bongnak on here used to arc weld log manifolds. Welds came out pretty crappy but it definitely worked and the welds held up

Arc welding is pretty badass on straight thick metals.
Arc welding on a round surface is about as easy as tying your dick in a knot though.

What did you guys use to make your manifolds? Here's the thing I need an A/C compatiable manifold so I figured I'd just have to make one

I have a $120 arc welder that runs on the standard 120 volt and i weld ---- fine. true it is hard to get it to look pretty always, but i have welded multiple charge pipes and an almost full exhaust. the welds hold fine and my welder is a POS. with a good arc welder, the welds are as good as MIG's. too many people hate on arcs.

arc beads can look fine if you just take some time to practice. (by some, i mean a good couple hours). i'll always have mad love for the tig welder though. O0

why's everyone hating on arc welding? its easy as pie. i've had maybe 15 hours of welding time in my entire life and here's an arc weld i put out.

My first 3 turbo mani's were arc welded.
It takes longer to weld, but if it's the only thing you got..it will do the job

If you know what your doin you can make a stick weld as pritty as a tig or mig, it just takes much more practice. you should see my welding instructors welds, it looks like dimes laying on top of one another. But it is much harder on pipe welding, but for my stick welding cert. i had to do a 6g pipe weld on 4 inch pipe. sorta like stick the pipe at a 45 degree angle and work around it. no moveing the pipe. yeah but anyways i think it would be pritty easy to weld some smaller pipe just do about an inch at a time and get full penitration in one pass.

speaking of arc welding pipe, anyone have any tips for me. im going to weld up my dp and charge pipes tuesday night.

arc weld it then cover it with heat wrap, im doing that to a ssauto mani.haha just im not arc welding it. but heat wrap looks like the ---- on a mani.

im kinda cautious about heat wrap. i heard if done unevenly it can cause some heat spots. er rather just significant changes of metal temperatures which if near a weld can cause some cracking. i've never personally used it but. probably just try to keep a nice even wrap of the runners.

any tips on pipe welding anyone?

arc isnt the best for it but it will work, i prefure tig or at least mig, but ehh, ark can have little pin holes that u cant really tell that are there so maybe mock it up with mig mild, then if u welding stainless use 309 filler stainless rod, just to insure it, to make sure there are no holes or leaks of any kind, or just make sure u leak test it. i made a bmc style elf with ark, using stainless rod, it acutaly looked like thick tig welds, if you know what your doin and got a decent welder that u can do about any project of this type, i have a miller ark welder, century mig and soon to have a miller tig ;D. just practice alot, i sucked at first. -blake

hey man, wheres that bj u owe me lol, jk but ya ur car will always be slower than mine, sorry to tell you lol. we will race later this summer when im ls/vtec turbo. but ya if u need any welding done to the maker of this thread, i might be able to do it for cheap -not ark-. but u should learn how to do ut yourself, and go buy some nice welding rod, make sure its not wet, lol i learned the hard way :-[
