Default Is a GT28r a good turbo?

I just picked up a really good condition TDO4H turbo and a GT28r or something like that made by garrett. Is the GT one any good? I heard they are ball bearing and is it worth changing my manifold over for instead of a t3? The TDO4H is too small for my b16 so Im hookin my buddy up with it to get his crx boosted.

last spring, i have replaced the t3 60 trim on my focus by a gt28R.

Just to give my input, i will shortly go back to the t3 60 trim.

Power and spool up did not justify the price tag at all. no more than it justified swapping manifold for a t25 flanged.

the most popular ones are the t3 / t4 ones with a .63 turbine.

wait a minute.
I said they are popular but don't make the mistake to purchase a " popular " turbo. I mean, get the right one. You may not even need a .63 a/r turbine or a t4 compressor either!

for sure, most ZC fellows with a stock engine get the .48/.60 a/r t3 60 trim but depending on the mods you have on your engine, your use of the car, power goals and personal preferences, you may very well end-up with different a/R housings, stage 1½ turbine wheel, watercooling, 360 thrust plate, and of course, any of the various t3, t04b or t04e compressor sides. one that supports your desired power comfortably.

They're all t3/t4 but those all have something in common: THey are stage 1 turbos. They spool faster, are cheaper, easily rebuildable, customizeable... obviously, with a smaller turbine wheel, they support less power than stage 3 turbos but who cares? They're still good for up to 400HP!! They're not so outdated. Bear in mind... the infamous 1500$ gt2871R HAS A T04B COMPRESSOR! Yes, the exact same housing that was designed back in the 60's!
