greddy question

(new to hondas)???If i read the info in the website correctly exhaust manifolds for all d16's are the same. Does this mean that greddy turbo kit for 93-95 civic ex will fit a 98 ex.If so why does greddy only lists it for 93-95.

Re:greddy question

i know the question is a little generic, but any help is appreciated!

Re:greddy question

yes, it will fit... and because of the OBD difference.
The Greddy fuel computer for an OBD1 kit (92-95) will not work with a 96+ and I'll explain why!

The blue box for the OBD1 kit takes MAP signal reading and lowers it to the ECU so that you don't get a check engine light for boost. Then it has a pre-programmed fuel curve and actually controls injector pulsing. This works great in an OBD1 car...
The problem with a later model is that you have a secondary oxygen sensor - when it detects that you're running to rich it tries to lean out and you end up running mostly in stoich then in rich (and this is bad with a turbo).

If you absolutely must buy a greddy kit, do yourself a favor and upgrade your fuel pump, get an AFC and 450CC injectors (there is a how to on the home page for homemadeturbo). Then you won't have to worry about fuel management - I'd also get an intercooler if I were you.

Re:greddy question

I couldnt locate the "how to" except the info in faq section.
Is there anyway to rig the second oxygen sensor. Are there any obdII units available from greddy or some body else like drag or fmax.

Re:greddy question

It's simple with obd2.. Put one sensor on the downpipe, and one after the cat convertor. That is how they normally work.

If you want to gut your cat, or run a straight pipe, you will need to get a O2 simulator, this is so you wont get a check engine light and throw a Cataylst Efficency type code. They run like 40-60 bucks.

Re:greddy question

And this will make the greddy kit compatible?
I am going for the kit because i dont have ready access to either a junkyard to go look for a turbo or any welding equipment.I was thinking of getting a basic kit like greddy or the basic fmax kit which retails for under 2 grand , run it at low boost for a while and then upgrade it with an intercooler, injector, boost controller etc? Do you guys think thats the right way to go.

Re:greddy question

Sure it will work just fine, may run into some small things, but those can be overcome..

Re:greddy question

chacko, why would you say running rich is bad for a turbo car

Re:greddy question

he didn't say running rich would be bad. he said when the ecu reads its running rich it will lean out the mixture thus then making it bad for a turbo car.
lean=detonation !! :)

hey if you really want a greddy kit lettme know i can get them for u for 1475 shipped..

a nice guy off hondatech named charles.

i would go custom, mad parts off that greddy kit wont match up. like the one charge pipe at the bottom and the blue box sucks ass.

ur gonna need at LEAST a fmu, inline and synapse missing link..

Re:greddy question

Does anybody have experience with turbo discounters out of santa fe springs california. Their kit looks pretty good, contains an injector control interface and a fuel control doohicky.
I guess if you can get rid of the obd2 problem even the apexi kit might be an option.
