Default Greddy kit & general turbo questions

Hello,
i have the '92-'95 Greddy turbo kit. Does anyone know how much boost it comes with stock? no paperwork came with it, and i see two different #'s listed... some say 5.5lbs and others say 7 lbs. Secondly, i read that adding an intercooler alters the actual pressure. i added a small johnnyracecar-type IC, does that drop my boost? the system is currently managed by eManage, but if i wanted to increase the boost, i just get an MBC right? does the eManage "learn" to the new MBC's settings or do i have to reprogram the eManage to accept the higher boost levels?

thanks!

Well, If you have the kind of money to buy your kit, you have the kind of money to pay someone to find out. COME ON, this is homemadeturbo.com, not how does my Greddy Kit work!

You're asking a couple of questions that seem pretty simple to you, but would require a LOT of background information and theory to explain so that you wouldn't have a halfassed idea and end up halfassing something = *BOOM* bye bye engine.

There's a reason why all good turbo n00bs drop $30 on Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. It's about a 100 pages or so of big glossy photos and while it takes a minute to dig through and understand everything, it's not *hard* to work your way through it. It just covers the three hundred and four basic tidbits and loopholes we don't feel like sitting here for three hours and typing up for you.

Now, after you get yer basic edumucayshun, come back and ask clarification on the finer points and you'll be very happy with this forum + the input you receive from it.

ok so basically you are telling me this forum is useless?

no one here knows how much of a pressure drop or gain an intercooler creates? lets start with that, can anyone answer that? You guys are honestly going to tell me to go BUY a book when i could just ask a friendly question on a forum thats meant to help people? seriously, if you guys are going to be elitist about it, whats the point of having a forum?

just because my post count is zero doesn't mean i'm an idiot. But i tell you what - its a great idea to treat newcomers this way - really great way to keep new people around and attract new members.

should i start over? forget i ever mentioned the word greddy. if i told you i had a T03 turbo with custom mani and piping and intercooler, and that i had the wastegate set to 7 lbs of boost, does the intercooler being there change that? can you guys tell me that?

FYI that book i am familiar with, although i haven't read it. That book doesn't answer the eManage question i had which was my only other question. I don't mean to sound like a dick but i come here asking for simple help (and yes, it is simple not complicated - the kit is already on the car, i'm not asking *how* to configure something, i just want to know what it does to the car, etc).... anyway i come here asking a mere question and get an earful of "do your homework", "buy a book", "if you're rich enough...", blah blah. seriously, what am i missing?

If you find a thread on here that answers my question, (i already did a "search"), post the link here to prove it and i will go away from here forever. deal? great, now please if you know answer the question.

and to who asked why i wasn't getting a boost gauge - this is my daily driver, a hand-me-down car. i wanted more power and a friend was selling his turbo kit. i don't plan on modding anything on the engine, i won't go all crazy, don't want gauges and all that stuff. I don't need to "tune" it either, because the eManage on his car was tuned for the exact same system & engine.... so i don't need a wideband or dyno time. i really just wanted more daily horsepower. boost gauges are for tuning or show, really.... i have one on my 1.8T GTI and have looked at it all of maybe 3 times.

for anyone who will post or respond to me honestly and answer my question, i offer my thanks in advance and apologies for having to read all the other B.S....

pressure drop from an intecooler varies maybe 1-2psi. Yes, you will have to "recalibrate" (tune) the emanage if your turn up the boost. I believe the stock setting that came w/ the 92-95 greddy kit is 5.5psi.

Your taking this all wrong.
And obviously you dont care much about the hand me down car.
Have you ever heard of a boost spike ?
Or boost creep ?
Both of these are good reasons to have a boost gauge.
If theres one gauge you should have, its that.
So if your vacuum line to your wastegate actuator falls off, you can see the boost fly to 15 or so and then LET OFF.
Theres a good reason to have a boost gauge.

Yea btw 5.5 psi. Your JRC probably lowered your boost .5-1 psi. Give or take.
Now go have fun and enjoy that hole in your block because a boost gauge isnt important.
