Greddy 'Blue box' FMU..?
Hey, I am peicing together my kit, and need some fuel manegement. I only plan to run 5-7 PSI for now, and was wondering if I bought just a Greddy Blue Box FMU and hooked it up, would it cover my Fuel / map sensor / CEL problems? I looked at a pic of the Greddy SOHC kit that comes with the Blue Box and it also shows larger injectors in the pic.. So basically If I buy Just a blue box will it work like in a full Greddy Kit? Any input would be great, Thanks.
Oh and BTW I am still looking for a downpipe if someone has one for a 92+ Civic/ Del Sol http://ebay3.ipixmedia.com/abc/M28/_...a638f5/i-1.JPG |
Re:Greddy 'Blue box' FMU..?
The greddy blue box will pulse the injectors slower, (for I belive 310cc injectors) so if you would put that on your car without upgrading the injectors it would be even worse! it would slow down the pulse of your stock 240cc injectors. Plus I am sure to buy that blue box outright is going to cost way to much. Your better off going with a DSM 450cc AFC/SMC/Fields controller hack.. basically using larger injectors (450cc's) and using the controller to slow the pulse down.

Re:Greddy 'Blue box' FMU..?
I have seen them on Ebay going for about $50.00, and was wondering the same thing. I'm also getting a kit together for my 97 EX and I'm using a 95 OBD1 ECU, So I was thinking on getting one of those blue boxes, but thanks to your help, I will spend the money on the VAFC or SAFC. Do the DSM injector fit right in? and Can you only get them from a Turbo Eclipse, or any Eclipse?
Thanks |
Re:Greddy 'Blue box' FMU..?
90-94 DSM Turbo (Manual)
94-99 DSM Turbo (Auto/Manual) You can get the 1g DSM automatic turbo injectors, but they flow at 380cc. They will work just fine too. I am doing a write up on how to install them.. its pretty simple. You will need to get some inline resistors at radio shack and install them inline, grind out a grommet a little bit & shave the alignment dowl on the plug of the injector. Its a peice of cake. Jeff |
Re:Greddy 'Blue box' FMU..?
Someone Told me You could also use the H22 prelude injectors on civics and integras, that they should plug right in.

David 1992-96 Prelude non-vtec Peak and hold 240cc 1992-96 Prelude VTEC Peak and hold 345cc 1997-up Prelude VTEC Saturated 280cc Supposivly these are the flow ratings for the H22's I dont know if they are true or not.. btw, 92+ civics use Saturated injectors. and if you were to get the 345cc injectors from the prelude, (and if they do flow that much) you will need to get some type of controller to pulse them slower, otherwise you will run way to rich with your stock computer. Re:Greddy 'Blue box' FMU..?
I recently puchaced a used homemade style kit off of ebay and the guy threw in a "black box". Is this the same as the blue box? Since I already bought a rising rate regulator for management, should i install this on my car? I can tell that the guy i bought it from never installed it when the kit was on his car because its brand new. Keep in mind that i have a DP-FI motor (it sucks). :'(

Re:Greddy 'Blue box' FMU..?
You cant use the "black box" or the "blue box" on obd0 cars.. so I am assuming that is what you have if its a DPFI setup. (DX?) The black box basically tells the ecu that the car is cold all the time, so it enrichen's the fuel mixture. You get the same reaction if you where to unplug your coolant temp sensor on the side of your head, and get another sensor and plug on that connector, then just let it hang in your engine compartment. Your car will go "full rich" This is what we used on our Z6 hatch for a very long time. It works, but fuel milage blows.

Resistors
Which resitors from Radio Shack are you using?
|
Re:Greddy 'Blue box' FMU..?
10ohm 10 watt resistors, you can get them at radio shack, they are about 2 inchs long, white in color I think. You will need a total of 4 of them for each. cost is like 4-5 bucks.
I am doing a write up on this, I got a few pics on the install as well. Jeff |
Re:Greddy 'Blue box' FMU..?
for a lousy 8psi and under be smart.
just get a vortech fmu, inline and missing link. its pretty much full proof. if your gonna go over, get a smaller disk like a 8:1fmu and a safc. that will let you lower pulses and duty cycles per rpms. it will help idle them bigger injectors and let you play with them to get the right fuel curve. i hate them fish tank maps and stupid blue death boxes. if you really want to do boost. go zdyne if your non obd, or hondata if your obd1. trust me on that! jeff will agree peace |
Re:Greddy 'Blue box' FMU..?
I'm holding out for Ghettodyne...
supposedly in 2 more releases it will support boost! http://www.ghettodyne.com/ http://pgmfi.crx-forum.org/ -Henry |
