Default Got it together but don't know how to tune it!

Everything is on and the car runs but don't know how much to retard the timing if any, don't know what pressure to put the fuel regulator(B&M)with Vortech 12:1 and I have no idea what boost I'm set at and don't want find out by driving an untuned motor down the road and blow it up.I bent the wastegate in but the car acts like it doesn't want to build boost.I drove it but didn't exceed 1 lb.I don't know if I put a strain on the wastegate rod by bending the wastegate bracket or not.I've got stock injectors and will be at around 4 lbs. for about 2 weeks, then up to 7 lbs.

try bending the wastegate the other way. you might have accidently bent it the way where it will open up sooner thus less boost...

I was told to bend it in towards the turbo about a quarter of an inch for 5-7lbs---should it go the other way(away from the turbo) also I can't get this damn B&M regulator to work right -- it's a piece of ---- ,they should have just made a full regulator like AEM instead of the adaptor. If possible I'd like to just take it off and put a stock regulator back on.I didn't do that because I didn't know if the FMU would do the job.I know it's not getting enough fuel for the air it's getting because it's pre-detonating--starting to ping when it hits that 1 lb. of boost and that's when I let off so not to ---- anything up.

ok, no you bent it the right way. you sure the wastegate is any good?? pop it loose from the exhaust housing so you can move the rod back and forth with the pot side still attached. take off the hose from the pot and move the rod and then stick your finger over the hole and release. then release your finger...you should have a little suction on it. this will let you know if you've got a leak in the pot's diagphram or if it is stuck open, etc. You might also have a hose too loose or torn resulting in a leak.

I've already taken it off and pulled on the rod while I held it up to my ear and I could hear air coming out as I moved the wastegate rod back and forth. And I put all new hose on it .I changed all hoses that came with the turbo and all the gaskets.I did go and buy a AEM regulator though.I put it on but I don't have a pressure gauge to set it -- I got it off a friends crx so it should already set at least close to the right pressure. What about the timing. Should I retard it at all.If I do it'll have to be with the distributor cap cause I don't have an adjustable cam gear. After I put the new regulator on it idles around 300-400 rpm almost going dead but it'll stay running--while running I adjusted the regulator --that didn't help so I tried to idle it up with the idle screw -that didn't work either --what else? I've already checked for vaccum leaks or hoses I left off.

put the fuel regulator back to stock you dont need it, that fmu will already jack your fuel pressure so high it wont matter.

i dont see a need for a afpr, they are pretty worthless. anyway, it sounds like your wastegate is fucked up and not sealing but if its sealing then you should be able to build more boost than 1 psi. do you have any exhaust leaks?

i would bend the wg arm back to stock and see if it works.

about the timing retard it if you are already detonating at 1 psi, just turn the dizzy cap. your timing must be hella advanced for it to already ping like that. you might wanna see where its at with a timing light.

also check for leaks in the charge piping if you only get 1psi.. what rpm was 1psi?

It probably would've boosted more but I let off because my friend drove it earlier and he let off at 2 lbs.-- after he let off it smoked like a chimney for about 5-7 seconds. The 1 lb. was at about 5k in 3rd gear.I was told that it should start boosting around 3k and reach full boost (7 psi) around 4k.After I messed with the d-cap and it didn't idle right I put it back to stock (you could see where the washers were) but it still didn't idle right ( around 400 or 500 rpm ).I even tried taking the negative battery cable off to reset the computer.
