Got Problems all of a sudden - Need Help

Ok so I have a turbo '95 LS teg and I have had it runing pretty decent on UD using my desktop. High 14s to low 15s AFR part throttle, 12s AFR WOT 10psi. Been runing good for prolly 6 months ... been shopping for a laptop to dial it in.

Anyway, I drove it to school a couple nights ago and set the cruise @ 65 on the way in town and it was fine with the usual 14-15AFR .... but as I got into town it started to take a ---- on me. Wanted to die at stop lights, on take off the AFRs were all over from 10-20 and back and it would buck and run like ass ...

Got it to school and popped the hood. Looked everything over and all seemed normal other than a couple tiny tears in my vac line going to my FPR right where it slips on. So I pulled it off, cut the end off and put it back and went to class.

Got out 6hrs later and it started and ran fine about half way accross town and then it started it again. Pulled over and checked all my other vac lines, all looked good. Figured I could limp it home. Got out on the hwy and set the cruise @ 65 and it ran a pretty steady 12AFR .... slowly climbed to 13 .... then 14...15....16, 17, 18 ... got off hwy.

Died at exit stop light. Started back up and bucked like ass taking off. Cruising ~50mph it would go from 15AFR to 19 after only a couple seconds of steady throttle. Ended up gaging the throttle the rest of the way to keep the AFR in the 14s....

At one point I floored it for a second just to see if it would make boost and it did, but went lean fast.

Need some comments on this. Stressed cause I am selling my DD right now and the LST needs to be my transportation for awhile. Kinda lost on the problem ... does this sound like a vac leak problem to you ??? Any ideas ??

Thanks

Fuel filter/pump failure?

Hmmm... I put a new walbro 255 intank in it. I have a liquid filled fuel pressure guage on the filter and it reads normal ~40 at idle ... but the car surges and wants to die ....

Well I guess it doesn't surge ... it just drops off and dies or almost dies ...

Thoughts? anybody else think its the fuel filter?

Got another person saying its the distributer ... anybody agree?

Any tips on how to trouble shoot this?

??? >:( :-\ :'( :7 :6 :S :X

injector taking a ---- possibly?

i'd guess 02 sensor, but when those ---- and you hit full throttle it'll go into open loop mode and run normal... so i'd guess something fuel related.

all things seem to point toward injectors then

Have you ever replaced the fuel filter up on the firewall? Could be gettin clogged up :-\

RC550s .... are you saying like a dead injector? wouldn't it be lean all the time?

No. Is there anyway for my to know that is the problem before I go buying parts?

Thanks :6

It's one of those things that are so cheap, you just replace it and see if that helps, like a thermostat.

Yeah, already done the thermostat a couple weeks ago .... lol . This car is gonna nickel and dime me to death >:(

But my '01 GSR DD is leaving today so the LSt has to run by tuesday so I can go to school :-\

so it does this out of boost or in boost, or anywhere in between???? almost sounds like coil or ignitor getting overheating. its a honda by the way. i vote dizzy, but test the coil.

does all of this out of boost, trying not to boost it while not running for ----. Thats 2 votes for dizzy ...prolly have some time to work on the car tomorrow.

UPDATE: :1

So I replaced the fuel filter and it was full of ----, prolly the stocker with 167k on it :6 ran good for prolly ~15 miles, starts leaning out again.

So I figure I must have a tank full of ---- and the new filter is packd again. So I exchanged the filter for a new one and swapped it out (the gas that came out wasn't super clean and clear lookin but really not full of ---- like I expected) also drained the tank into jugs with paint filters in the funnels while beating the tank with a rubber mallet to try and get the junk to shake out the drain hole.

First jug was clean with nothing in the filter, and a little bit of crap came out with the last little bit of gas ... but not a whole lot.

Put the fuel back in with ~1/2 bottle of STP fuel system cleaner and took it for a test drive.

Got out on the hwy and boosted fine up through 115mph, cruised ~90mph for a few seconds, then a cop flahed his lights at me so I slowed to 60 for a minute then turned around ..... by the time I got back to my house it was leaning out again :7 ....

My buddy says I should pull the pump and see if the screen is clogged .... but with it in the drive idling I can get under the hood and watch the FPG and even when it leans out and stumbles it holds steady fuel pressure so I am kinda skeptical that it's in the pump ...

In fact since the FPG is on the outlet of the filter I feel like it must be getting fuel just fine all the way to the injectors ... which are RC 550s I bought used .... but then again it seems as though an injector usually has a problem or it doesn't ... not usually come and go...

Until stronger arguement I am avoiding the distributer suggestion
1. cause its exspensive :'(
2. if it had problems getting spark wouldn't it go rich? and not lean?

So .... what to try from here ?

1. what is your fuel pressure at idle now

2. what is your fuel pressure when you pinch the vacuum hose on the FPR

3. check the resistance of the injector coil windings, i'd expect somewhere in the range of 12K-16K ohms. It'd be good to do an injector balance test, but i doubt you have the equipment for that.

Yeh my guess would be injectors , faulty ecu maybe chek the air/fuel , retune if possible

could be wiring to the injectors too. Like if something is lose or you're getting resistance which can cause the injectors to run twitchy. But it's probably mechanical from the sound of it. Try swapping injectors with someone.
