Got my Turbo Today
Only issue is one of the DP housing bolt holes needs to be repaired. ill just have the shop helicoil it. I do need a flange for the exhaust housing though and I cant seem to find one that will fit that 4 bolt pattern. Came with a spare backing plate with a carbon seal in it if I wanted to go draw through.

Re: Got my Turbo Today
Where'd you get it and how much did it set you back? Looks like it's in decent shape... much shaft play?
|
Re: Got my Turbo Today
Got it off a turbo regal site. $65 shipped. It has some side to side play but no front to back. The backing plate looks new guy said he recently had it rebuilt. Also came with a spare backing plate with a carbon seal. Story goes the guy had it on a car (drawthrough) and it was sucking a ton of oil. He sent it off to be rebuilt. Got it back did the same thing then realized it needed a carbon seal. bought the parts never put them on and lost interest in the car.

Re: Got my Turbo Today
looks good. are you putting that on a single cam ??
looks like that 3 bolt flange is the same as a stock a6 ex manifold, or is close enuff to mock up |
Re: Got my Turbo Today
Its going on this... how can you tell if the side to side play is too much? I can barely wiggle it and it does not touch the housings at all.

Re: Got my Turbo Today
you should be able to make that 4 bolt flange easy enough. i made all of my flanges for my turbo with a bandsaw, torch and grinders
|
Re: Got my Turbo Today
Just get flanges for a Grand National and everything will be fine.
|
Re: Got my Turbo Today
it should jiggle some its a floating bearing. so if it isnt touching the walls your good.

A block doesn't break at a certain psi. It breaks at a certain psi with a certain turbo. 8 psi on a 48/60ish T3 is not the same as 8 psi on an HX35. |

Thanks captain obvious ;)

Re: Got my Turbo Today
Its also about how much power the motor can hold. How many RPM's it can turn. You gotta remember were looking at maybe a 4500-5000rpm redline. Im assuming 8psi on a Holset will make a ton more power then a T3 because it flows so much more?

Re: Got my Turbo Today
Is this truly a "Stage 3" Wheel?

Doesn't the "stage" have to due with the diameter of the wheel at the bottom vs the top (mayor/exducer.. something like that)... I never read into that stuff very much. Regardless, that looks pretty similar to a "stage 3" compressor wheel that I used to have. |

Re: Got my Turbo Today
Well i ask because if they cant repair the bolt hole on the turbine housing I will need to get a new one. But then Again I guess just measurements will work.
|
Re: Got my Turbo Today
it's a stage ONE.
it looks the same as the infamous mercedes/scout turbine wheel. let me guess: the base of the wheel is 65mm, it's "stage 1½" the exducer measures 48.72mm" as far as it's condition, radial Shaft play on a t3, The tolerance is 20 mils. axial Shaft play on a t3, you don'T want any. rule of thumb, if it's used, have it rebuilt first no mather what! |

Re: Got my Turbo Today
I'm really looking forward to this project. thats a clean nova, I dig the color. Keep up the good work. In my opinion, you should get that bolt hole fixed with time serts as opposed to helicoils. The helicoils seem like they like to pull out like a spring. :7
