Got brave today

Even though I have no fan and no fuel management I decided to take my car for a spin. The car runs good but I did notice that alot of smoke comes out when I come to a stop. 1st. if I take my drain line off should oil be coming out of the fitting in the pan??? 2. Could a bend in the drain line be causing the oil to go back up to the turbo?? I dont think my turbo is bad cause I took the piping off and there no oil in the piping.

Comments..

no oil should not be coming out of the pan.

if it is, your return tap is to low.. :'(

Re:Got brave today

1.on my b16 oil came out of the fitting on the pan.
2.my oil line comes out of the turbo goes down and then flat for about 4-5".what are u using for oil feed(what size line?).do u have a restrictor in the oil feed to cut back the oil going to the turbo?

does smoke kinda roll out from under the car when u stop, kinda like all the cyl. just took a crap at once?

Re:Got brave today

...i put my fittimg up as far as possible, maybe b/c the b16 pan is kinda shallow ???

shortyz- Please tell me you are j/k! Beacuse I took the drain line to see if it was crimped and alot of oil was coming out of the fitting.

alwaystootall- I'm using stealth's oil kit. No I dont have a restrictor in the oil feed??

Yes. "kinda like all the cyl. just took a crap at once" What does it mean?

Re:Got brave today

-on my setup oil comes out of the fitting on my oil pan when i take the line off. and i have it up as far as possible.
-when i say restrictor i mean a neddle valve so u can reduce the amout of oil the turbo is getting.
-kinda like all 4 of the cylenders(sp :-[) took a crap..like u are setting there and ur motor blew up all of the suddon.

Re:Got brave today

yeah. But what does this smoke mean. Do you guys think its my return line?

Re:Got brave today

what size is ur return line?
..i cant remember if i ran my car without the needle valve or not,i think i did, but i dont think i let it set very long and idle. but once i instaled the valve i turned it to where it was almost closed ,and everything was fine. so one day i decided to give the turbo a little more oil. and one night i was setting there talking letting it idle and the smoke started rolling from my dp. took me a while to think about it and i relized it must be oil backing up in the turbo. so i turned to valve back down and it has never done it again. just dont park on a steep hill with the front of the car facing downward, this will cause the same thing to happen ::)

My car does the EXACT same thing.. i had been thinking maybe it was the oil drain line.. it also does it when i am engine braking down a hill.. everytime i asked everyone said it was my rings or ringlands, but i did a compression test a few days ago and got 180-180-170-175 which is good. So how exactly did you guys fix your probs?

no, he's not joking, oil should not come out of the drain fitting if you take the return line off, if so, this means that it is below the 'fill level', it needs to be above the oil level so that the oil can drain in to it, it will just get backed up and CAUSE YOUR TURBO TO SMOKE it's too low. do you have a pic of it? it should be about this high.......

Re:Got brave today

yeah, that's how you would have to do it unless you got a different oil pan.

When I had my b16 oil came out of the fitting with the drain line off. I had the fitting up as high as possible too.

Re:Got brave today

maybe u had too much oil in thar :P

liquids ALWAYS find the same level. so it will back up oil to the level of the oil in the pan.

my return line is just as high as urs, and oil comes out of my fitting....on a 1st gen b16. those motors take 10 quarts of oil right :P
-how old is ur tubo???

Re:Got brave today

i have a d15 but no oil comes out of the fitting.. i think i need to figure out a new route for my oil return line, i think its developed a crimp in it and is causing the car to smoke

Re:Got brave today

I've always had oil com back out of the fitting in the pan when I've taken the drain off...and it looks almost exactly like the picture there. I have NEVER had my turbo leak ANY oil at all..you could eat off it!! Keep in mind that the oil level will be lower in the pan when the car is running...as long as you have it as far up on the side as you can you should be fine...another idea...weld up that hole and make theaded one in the block right above the pan...(if that's not too high that is...)

green91 09-09-2004 10:30 PM

Re:Got brave today

its not that it leaks oil.. it pushes through the seals and comes out in the exhaust and intake piping.. not on the outside of the turbo
