Is this a good welder??

is this a good one??

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...311863767&rd=1

-------------------
I'm debating wether I should

A.) Pay someone to do my exhaust for me( like 200-250 i guess)
-or-

B.) Buy a welder and try to make one myself.

And if you know any good ones or where I could get it could you please list it
Thanx ;)

Re:I need you guys opinion

It's up to how much you want to spend I guess... I mean you could spend about $800 on a "good" welder and make an exhaust for yourself... Or you could spend a bit less and just have a shop do it. I guess what it comes down to is what do you want to spend? If you don't have a certain ammount you want to spend, I'd say get a welder and make your own. I don't know how many times i've used my welder for charge pipes, exhaust work, body work, and everything. i'm alway's glad that i bought it. Plus theres no feeling like knowing that you made something from sratch with your own 2 hands ;)

if you can afford it get a welder and learn to weld. feels good knowing you did it yourself and you could make some money on the side after you've mastered the art of welding.

Re:I need you guys opinion

this topic is covered all the time in this forum. Search back a little bit and u will find lots of info.

first off you will need a MIG. Expect to pay $250-400 for the welder, then probably another $100 for a cylinder of argon (shielding gas). A decent auto-dark helmet will be at least $40 and there are other little things you need to buy like gloves and wire. It all adds up man, but worth it in the end. I'm about to sell my welder to my dad's company and upgrade to a bigger one, I've already got a nice beefy argon bottle (40cf) and of course my trademarked hoodlum helmet with jackson auto-dark lense installed.

If you have the money to spend then shell out for a Lincoln or Miller in the 130 amp range (110 volts), but if 220v is avail then I would highly recommend picking up something in the 175amp range. You can always find nice prices on used 220v welders on ebay.

All in what your demands are.

thanx man. I'll do a search later when i get back home.
My demands aren't too much i think. Just looking for something i could do an exhaust with and maybe parctice with for a beginner welder. I'll see what i can find later

Re:I need you guys opinion

;D
well I came to a conclusion today after i got an different estimate from the welder. I'm going to attempt to do it my self. The problem now is deciding which one. Give it a week to get here. A couple weeks to a month to pracitce some welds ( it'll end up bidng a day or two) and then im do the exhaust.

Re:Is this a good welder??

No, it's an average welder for a bad price - try www.harborfreight.com - they have the same welder (it's their own brand, but identical features) for $119-

Re:Is this a good welder??

hmm..does look that way. And not bad but what do i know about welders :-\

Is yours a 90 amp? I basically looking for something i can do my exhaust with and possibly some new charge pipes.
Will this get it done?

Is this the cheapest of the cheapest like OBX?
or somewhere in the middle

thanx for the link thou...much better pricing for a low budget beginner welder like moi

Re:Is this a good welder??

I have a couple of welders - a 220V arc ("stick") welder and a 110V Lincoln MIG - the MIG was $600, plus $220 for a 140 cf. ft. Argon tank. When I get the dough, I'm going to put a high frequency box and a TIG torch to the arc welder to make a TIG setup to do aluminum.

That's overkill for what you need - yes, the welder you are looking at would be good for basic, thinwalled steel projects like exhaust pipe and charge pipe.

If you really want to look into welding, do what I did and take a class at your local community college - your welding will kick ass at the end of it, and you get to try out every cool machine known to man.

Re:Is this a good welder??

SO the original one I posted would be good?
I read in another post that for doing an exhaust I would need a low setting around 40 so i wouldn't burn through the pipes
i'm looking at this one now cause the auction ended on the other one...
