That's a pretty generalized statement, and I absolutely hate it when people throw psi numbers around like they know something about it. 6-8psi out of what turbo is what the answer should be more or less. A turbo that flows 350cfm at 12psi isn't going to be nearly as rough on a motor as a turbo that flows 650cfm at 6psi. See where I'm going with this? People used to tell me I could only run a max of 8 psi safely on my d16z6...I ran 14 and it survived for over a year until I swapped to a b-series. I've run LS's at 16-18psi, b16a's at 16psi, all of which I was told never to run that high of a psi on. Granted, higher psi's do increase cylinder pressure, and in that case a good solid tune is on order, because even a higher psi number than what people tell you is "safe" is still nothing compared to the cylinder pressure produced from detonation.

Cliff Notes:
People are full of ----, don't listen to all of them.
People who blew their motor's going over 6-8 psi probably did so because of shitty tuning and detonation.

get a big turbo, run low boost, and tune the ---- out it. oh, and dont rape it every day.

thats the best way to not blow up the h22.

I've seen stock h22's go past 400whp. The longest ive seen one last is about 6 months. bearings went bye bye.
