Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

I dunno, I just dont like the way log style manifolds look and I dont want to use one, sure there alright for power and probably very strong but I want something that looks really nice

SSautochrome, there manis look sick as hell and aparently perform fairly well but break for pretty much 80% of the buyers right.

I plan to be making 325-350whp, just looking for ideas/prices/pics of mani's

D series only please

Re:Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

whatever you dont get ssautocrap. you can spend 650 and get a shirtbird equal length manifold. or do something like whitey and make your own. making your own gives you many possibilities. shirtbird has i think 3 types of manifolds, take a look.

Re:Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

Well I found a guy on Honda-Tech who s just starting his business and hes making 10 "full race" style manifolds for $550 just to get his name out, I can also get a 3" downpipe for $200, good prices

SSauto goes for $200, lots of money saved

350 with d?

whats your plans

Re:Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

well you know everyones attitude towards the ssauto manifold. some are good, some arnt. id rather have a manifold that is guaranteed than have to worry about my turbo falling off or welds cracking. shitbird makes a manifold for 285 that looks quite nice. check it ou. a little different than the log style

Yeah but your buying a $200 headache. Buy quality once and than you don't need to worry about a manifold again. I still feel that the best manifold is the one you build yourself.

Well I like good looking manis and want one, dont wanna settle for ssauto, but dont wanna spend $500

Re:Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

projekteg is using a ssautchrome now for about 6 months. he made a few braces for it, and has had no problems. he made a "H" brace and then braced it to the block...seems to be doing the trick nicely.

BMC race makes a really sexy manifold also. i think his website is www.bmcrace.com

Re:Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

---- it Im gonna get an SS auto, a lot of shitty stories but none of them were braced

Does projectteg have any pics of his braced mani, gotta snag some metal from work I suppose

Re:Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

IM gonna laugh at your ass when you post later on about how your manifold fell apart and fucked up your exhaust turbine... and your looking for a new manifold (one that works< and a new turbo)

Re:Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

if they tell you, she's a -----, I fucked her, my cousin fucked her, his father fucked her, and so did the mail man.
Why do you stil say, yea I know she fucked all those guys but I can change her by reading to her from the bible.lol
Not only is it gonna be the cost of the welding, new manifold, and anything else that might ---- up when you're doing 90mph and your manifold decides to break and drop the turbo, downpipe, charge pipes etc. onto the street below. i almost got an ssmanifold but reading the horror stories about the made me change my mind quick. cutting edges and pinching too many pennies when you're building a turbo kit will come back to bite you in the ass. ;D see if shitbird can make you one compatable with a/c or find someone in your are who will weld one up for you. Or buy a welder and weld it on your own, I highly recomend it.

dont brace the mani itself, that doesnt allow for thermal expansion and therefore they DO CRACK. BRACE THE TURBO. if you aernt running ac take a reasonably thick piece of ss. bend it to shape, bolt it to the turbo and the ac mounting bolt (assuming you dont have ac) and shim it at the turbo with washers to get the necessary support. i know guys that have been running for over a year like this with no probs

Re:Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

A good looking manifold should be a piece that is properly welded, has a good design and is made of quality materials. you can take any type of manifold and have it powder coated ceramic chrome or use other types of coatings to make it appear prettier so you can impress all the ladies with the shiney piece of metal under your hood. :P

N1ghtM0nkey 09-26-2004 09:41 AM

Re:Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

If you're worried about shiny then can't you just polish a shirtbird or BMC manifold with some mother's or something?

SSAuto = Rice for turbos...looks pretty but as for functionality....not much.

W O T 09-26-2004 03:15 PM

Re:Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

I dont give a ---- about the shine, vould be flat black, its just the tubular desieng that I like

Also, I dont get what you mean when you say brace it off of the turbo, Im new to boost and Im awaiting my t3 .60/.63 from a member here, but you say bolt it to the turbo, are there spare places you can bolt a brace to?

No I dont have AC, sohc zc non vtec

the cracking is only one part of the problem...the design is complete ass. tiny runners and a fucked up collector

get a shitbird tubular design one then you cheap fucker.

lol are we not all cheap? HOME MADE turbo...

I dunno, but if people are using them on 350+ whp b series, seems like they must flow fairly nice

Re:Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

if you wanna be cheap use a damn std manny with a adapter plate... id prefer that over losing my turbo on the side of the road

Re:Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

Is SSAuto turbo manifold proven to crack and break off or is it just a rumor that some guy ------? Really... I want to know.

N1ghtM0nkey 09-26-2004 11:51 PM

Re:Good Looking Manifolds... Cheap...

I really don't understand why the hell you want a SSAuto manifold so much. Do you think all these people made up this ---- cause they're bored?

Get a BMC Race manifold, it's tubular and they were on ebay for under $200 + shipping I do believe. Much better manifold and a MUCH better use of money. Think about it, would you rather run the risk of dropping pretty much your entire turbo setup onto the road AND run the risk of choking HP because of the poor design - OR would you rather get a manifold from a reputable manufacturerer that uses good material and has quality welds. Save yourself money, headaches, and problems now by getting a different manifold.

Plain and simple SSAuto is not worth the time or money. If so many people say it's bad, there is OBVIOUSLY something wrong with it! We're only trying to help, and I don't think any of these people would steer you in the wrong direction.

I got an SSautoChrome Manifold. Been wrokin for

about a month now. but it already looks like ---- and

im afraid it gonna give way soon. It works great

though. Got those new H bar thing.

take a look and you decide.

The Thing that really sux is the radiator clearance for the wastegate. that why i hate it, had to tilt my fan side ways and let it hang on there. Im planning on getting one of SHITBIRD'S manifolds soon.
